ST reporter was the only one who reported as " Suspension" , he does not know the difference between the two. Other newspaper & media reported correctly : It was a trading halt.

Same OM for almost all the S chip since day one. I was burnt during the time where there were many incidents of this nature. I swear I will never touch this again no matter how lucrative it may appear to be. .

I' ve ignored this one for yrs even though it seems to be a sound n well managed div play. My sense has always been that it' s probably another con job that has covered its tracks superbly .... maybe up until now .... Let' s see if I' m right !!!!

To my mind, Shub is still making a lot of $$$. Their plans n packages are by no means cheap despite all the promo gimmicks. I expect them to still clock in ard 150 or more in mil npat come end of FY.

NIM at 1.79 still some way lagging - DBS' is 1.91. Anyway, latest is US 10-yr bond yields dropped sharply last night, lowest in more than 3 yrs. DJ also lao sai in response to Duckie antics. So, STI will also llao sai a lot, likely led by selling of bk shares, record profits notwithstanding. DYODD though.

It is predicted that the next recession is coming, either in last quarter or beginning of next year (though whether Donald Trump allows it or not is something else to consider).
However to say that interest rate cut is the cause is plain weird. And then to say Hong Kong follows the same. They cut rates to boost the economy not to crash it. |

Great Eastern Q2 profit down 29% on non-operating losses

GREAT Eastern Holdings' second-quarter net profit fell 29 per cent to S$169 million from S$237.6 million for the same year-ago period on the back of non-operating losses.
Non-operating loss was S$26 million versus a non-operating profit of S$15.3 million for Q2 2018. Great Eastern attributed the loss to " higher valuation of long-term insurance contract liabilities" due to " a decline in the discount rate used to value these liabilities" .
This offset better investment performance, and a operating profit of S$161.7 million, which increased 3 per cent from S$156.7 million for fiscal 2018' s second-quarter.
