MEDIA RELEASE Keppel expands its Energy-as-a-Service footprint in Asia Keppel inks new EaaS contracts and collaboration MOUs at the opening of its state-of-the-art intelligent Operations Nerve Centre in Ho Chi Minh City. Vietnam, 10 July 2023 ? Keppel Corporation, through its Infrastructure Division, has secured contracts worth over US$70 million (approximately S$100 million) to provide long-term, recurring Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) to Republic Holiday Inn, Republic Suite Plaza and Estella Place in Ho Chi Minh City, as well as Grand Mercure Hotel & Resort in Quang Binh Province. The contracts were signed today at the opening of a state-of-the-art, intelligent Operations Nerve Centre in Keppel?s 64 hectare-integrated township, Saigon Sports City, which is being developed in District 2 of Ho Chi Minh City. Mr Nguyen Ky Phung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City and Ms Cindy Lim, CEO of Keppel?s Infrastructure Division were also present at the contract signing and opening ceremony. Through its Operations Nerve Centre, powered by proprietary algorithm, Keppel will be able to remotely monitor and optimise all of its energy assets in Vietnam in real-time, leveraging digital technology, artificial intelligence and machine learning. This greatly enhances the efficiency, reliability and scalability of Keppel?s EaaS solutions and delivers superior sustainability performance and economic value to its customers and users. Mr Poh Tiong Keng, General Manager, Vietnam and India, Infrastructure Division of Keppel, said, ?Keppel is pleased to bring the first-of-its-kind EaaS solution to Vietnam. The signing of our latest contracts and the opening of our advanced Operations Nerve Centre here in Ho Chi Minh City, are significant steps forward in the expansion of our EaaS offerings and track record in Asia. ?Our subscription based EaaS solution, which includes energy supply, cooling, decarbonisation and smart energy management, enables businesses and building owners to enjoy significant energy savings without having to make heavy upfront investments. As Vietnam accelerates its plans to reach net zero by 2050, we see tremendous opportunities to offer more of Keppel?s sustainability solutions and services in the country.? As part of the latest contracts, Keppel will design and retrofit the existing cooling systems of its clients? developments to improve energy efficiency and asset performance. The projects are expected to be completed by in phases and will have a combined design capacity of 8,000 Refrigeration Tonnes (RT). The projects are also expected to offset over 3,500 tonnes of carbon emissions annually, which is equivalent to the carbon abatement of taking more than 1,000 cars off the road. On the same occasion, Keppel also signed several Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with various partners in Vietnam, such as Filmore Group, Thanh Dat and Alphanam Group, to explore implementing other types of EaaS services, which include cooling, solar photovoltaic systems and electric vehicle charging.

DBS sees annual profit to exceed S$10b in medium term

DBS' s first-quarter net income of S$2.57 billion beat analysts' estimates, powered by lending income. Return-on-equity surged to 18.6%, from 13.1% a year ago.
The stock has lost nearly 8% this year, compared with about a 4% gain on the Bloomberg Asia-Pacific Banks Index.

SG Banks - Earnings downgrades nearing an end. Upgrade DBS to Buy.

UBS

We are turning more positive on the Singapore banks. 4 reasons - (1) Higher for longer Fed rates could mark a bottom in earnings downgrade. Potential revision of NIM guidance at Q2 results (end July / early Aug) could be a share price catalyst (2) While late cycle concerns are being priced in valuations, this time looks different from the typical "boom and bust" scenario. (3) Strong WM net new money inflows can drive earnings upside and medium term re-rating as sentiment recovers (4) Finally, the sector is trading at 8.2x forward P/E, 2SD below LT avg. Implied COEImplied COE is 3SD above avg and in its 99th percentile (vs c80th perc. for DM banks). We also upgrade DBS to Buy (from Neutral) and make it our most preferred. We maintain a Buy on UOB and Neutral on OCBC.

DBS is our most preferred. Why?

(1) Peak ROE of 17%+ this year is being discounted by valuations, and rightly so. But what is getting ignored here is the sustainability of this ROE. Even with normalized Fed funds rate of 2.5-3% and assuming specific provisions at c1.5x current, DBS could continue to deliver a sustainable ROE of 15-17%, highest among peers. (2) DBS is also at the forefront when it comes to returning capital to shareholders and has committed to a +24c absolute DPS per year, potentially bringing their payout to around 60%, ahead of 50% peer payout. There is also room for special dividends (~4% of market cap) given excess capital and operating CET1 range of 12.5-13.5%. (3) Valuation at 1.3x forward P/B is pricing in 65-70bps of credit costs, almost 5x guidance. (4) DBS has also seen the highest outflows and biggest adjustment in institutional investor (II) positioning among peers since Jan'23. For DBS, IIs net sold 1.7% of market cap since Jan'23 (vs. peers: 0.2- 0.6% of market cap). We think the risk-reward looks squarely skewed to the upside. We raise our PT to $36.5 (from $33.5) on the back of a higher sustainable ROTE of 16% (vs 15% previously).

UBS upgrades DBS to a buy for these 4 reasons....
https://www.theedgesingapore.com/news/banking-finance/ubs-upgrades-dbs-buy-these-reasons
Among the banks, DBS is the most preferred because " peak ROE of 17% is being discounted by valuations" .
During DBS' s investor day, DBS' s management hinted that 17% ROE is sustainable.
" With normalized Fed funds rate of 2.5%-3% and assuming specific provisions at 1.5x the current level (6 bps),
DBS could continue to deliver a sustainable ROE of 15%-17%, highest among peers" UBS says.

You should take profit in 2007, $20 then.

GoldenPig      ( Date: 15-Jun-2023 21:24) Posted:

Inexplicable exuberance and euphoria.
SIA profits have been declining for years before COVID due to stiff competition, especially from budget airlines.
Outstanding profit for FY stems from her ability to capture the early passenger loads immediately after borders reopened.
She will face the same stiff competition again when other airlines completely gear up their planes and crew. So not sure if this outstanding profit can be exceeded or even repeated to justify current price.

Even for long term investors, the entry price is critical. Need to do due diligence.
I have held SIA at $10 since 2000. Paper loss, but already clawed back most of the cost from the handsome dividends in the earlier years & from SATS shares given by SIA.
