I recently bought dbs. However, a voice in me is telling me to sell it due to poor economy, stagnant property market (hence reduced lendings) and potential oil and gas defaults.
The good thing about dbs is its a national bank and price has been depressed due to negative news/sentiment. And interest rate hikes can potentially benefit banks' bottomline.
I'll like to know your thoughts on this. Thanks.

Hi guys, sharing of opportunities..for those who are interested in casino stock, galaxy entertainment is a very good option to consider..it is one of the blue chip under the hsi, fundamentally strong company, zero net debt..their land bank is enough to double their current hotel capacity as such they only pay special dividend becos cash are used for further investment which they are in the process of doing so..based on Q1 result valuation is at hkd28.15 n thats a 6% growth as compared to end 2015. I have recently exited to switch into DBS n I intend to re-enter when it' s price dip further. This is the second time I exited from galaxy this year..Macau casino have stabilize n galaxy is the first operator to registered positive growth. as compared to local casino which is still going through the correction process in term of its business...thus those who are interested can go for the arbitrage profit when it' s price fall further..just to clarify I don' t derive any benefit from such sharing..I' m a full time investor n basically everyday I' m doing research on all my investment targets. If these recommendation are lucky enough to bring profit to u I only hope that u can donate a fraction of your profit to the SPCA or any charity organization that help the stray dogs n cats...likewise for those who have invested in DBS is a very good decision becos it' s valuation stand at about sgd20 n the arbitrage profit is attractive...thank you

Hyflux bond is not the only bond to be hit. Most unrated bonds are hit and trading below par...probably due to poor sentiment and fear (swiber).

Don worry too much dbs would survive this, but short term wise u see bloodshed on share price as market pressure dbs to provide more provision through downgrade and share sell off.

It also depends on market sentiment. Market can be very irrational. Uncertainty can make market panic (Any contagion? Who' s next?).

Well it depends on the analyst used....some think bk value 16.50 ....Phillip put as 15.67 ...whatever, current price is a discount to its book value.
Banks ( esp in Spore ) has very solid fundamental and honestly some property that is still not value for some time. ( like OCBC ...still have some nice shop hse LOL)
So arguement on its true book value is given.
Recent report that DBS added $2B to its loan book in the OG industry must have cause some sellers....BUT look at the volume ...1.8M shares done as of now .
Not common to see DBS in the top traded list......DYODD. :))

I am not vested and I dun think it's fair. They only offering such tiny premium over last traded price. Oil is down and advertisement and rental revenue is good, plus this is a an oligopoly. Price should be higher than 168, no doubt it's a nice and auspicious number. But 208 would have been more justified.

But I don't think argument that 'I buy high, so takeover price must be higher' will be valid. Shareholders have to debate based on whether the offer price is fair.

They seemed clumsy in their announcement submission. So many 'errors' by staff. Dunno true or not or changing their minds. Make me lose confidence in them.

Swiber is a BIG black hole, sucking in whatever money given to them and investor will probably see no light at end of this tunnel. if you look at the manner they handled this saga, you know that they are ' snake' . cannot imagine DBS still want to keep this company going. just get whatever money back and close case and move on. i reckon that there must be some political reason behind DBS supporting Swiber even though they know it is no hope.
maybe they just want to let the matter die down before letting it bankrupt eventually.
