SCI is still a major shareholder of SCM even after the de merger last year. They stand to benefit from the merger, as the offer price is likely to be better than the continuing operations of SCM which potentially be loss making for next few years

If I remember correctly the Chairman said in the AGM three years ago, that provisions were set aside for the damages done to the property and if they managed to receive substantial payments from the insurance, they will return the claimed money as recovery costs which should look good on the next results sheet...
Mapletree North Asia Commercial Trust settles with insurers for HK$334m over damage to Festival Walk mall

MAPLETREE North Asia Commercial Trust  Mapletree NAC Tr: RW0U +2.94%  has entered into a settlement agreement with insurers on the damage to its Festival Walk mall in Hong Kong' s Kowloon Tong during the protests in 2019. The total settlement amount agreed was HK$334.3 million (S$58.3 million).

This comprises HK$84.3 million for property damage and HK$250.0 million for revenue loss due to business interruption. Interim payments of HK$263 million have been received from the insurers to date, the manager said in a bourse filing on Wednesday (Nov 24).

The insurance settlement amount for revenue loss due to business interruption, net of applicable tax, is about S$36.4 million. About S$3.5 million, in excess over the distribution top-ups of S$32.9 million paid to unitholders in Q3 and Q4 FY19/20, will be distributed to unitholders as part of the semi-annual distribution for the period from Oct 1, 2021 to Mar 31, 2022.

The settlement amount for property damage is capital in nature and not distributable, the manager said.

Units for the trust closed at 2.94 per cent or S$0.03 higher on Wednesday (Nov 24) at S$1.05.

Anti-government demonstrators had smashed glass panels at the mall in November 2019 and set fire to the Christmas decorations, causing what was described as extensive damage.

Singtel will mostly likely soar after the end of 30 Nov! 30 Nov just after 5pm is high time for big shortists to make a big buyback. For now, don' t sell low and low to winning shortists.

I heard that Comfortdelgro could be replaced by Olam in the STI by FSTE Russell. Accordingly, CIMB removed Comfortdelgro as its top pick stock.

News Analysis: Will CDG be subject to STI deletion?

There has been some talk about the potential removal of ComfortDelGro from the STI in the upcoming December review.
Below are our findings.

In conclusion,  CDG is likely to remain inside  the STI  although it is creeping dangerously close to an index removal.
The below is based on our findings and we may still be wrong due to different interpretations of the rules.
A key point of contention is whether eligible securities in rule 5.2.4 takes into account liquidity.
We have assumed so from rule 4.1.1. That said, if eligibility does not take into account liquidity, CDG would be subject to STI removal.

In summary, to be considered for STI inclusion

The stocks need to meet eligibility rules, free float and  liquidity  criteria
Reviews in December will be based on STI data on the Monday 4 weeks prior to  review effective date
Company will be deleted if it falls to 41st  or below amongst  eligible  securities

Other notable points:

We believe outside sources have pointed to CDG being ranked 42nd  by market cap. Our analysis used the stock screener on BB
where CDG was ranked 41st. In any case, CDG is likely to remain in the index as its rank would be 40th  excluding ineligible
securities based on a 42nd  rank.

Our calculations for liquidity were based on average volume whereas FTSE Russel uses median volume.
Still, given elevated trading volumes earlier this year, average volumes are likely to be skewed higher than median volumes meaning
using averages is likely to be more conservative than medians.

Keppel FELS lands contract for offshore wind farm substations worth S$110m
MON, NOV 22, 2021 - 7:00 PM

GLOBAL offshore group Keppel FELS has landed a contract from a renewable energy company to construct two offshore substations worth around S$110 million.

The project is scheduled to be completed in 2024, to be deployed in an offshore wind farm.

Keppel FELS, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Keppel Offshore & Marine (Keppel O& M), said in a bourse filing on Monday that its work scope comprises the engineering, procurement, construction, testing and comissioning for the topside modules of the two offshore substations. This excludes the offshore substations' foundations and electrical components that will be furnished by the client.

Keppel O& M is strengthening its foothold across the value chain of offshore renewables. It recently completed two offshore substations for Taiwan' s Greater Changhua 1 & 2a offshore wind farms and is currently building a high-voltage, direct current converter station for offshore wind farms in the German sector of the North Sea as well as the first wind turbine installation vessel in the United States.

weekaykee      ( Date: 23-Nov-2021 09:27) Posted:

I am very sure Keppel is going to ask more than $500m now. TH will not be able to arm-twist Keppel since they only own 20%+ of it.

2022' s losses + the $500m (assuming Keppel takes pity on SCM and sticks to its orginal stated amount), will wipe off everthing it has. So how to survive with another $1b of losses in 2023, now that the contracts will not come in time to save it for 2023.

ckmpd1      ( Date: 23-Nov-2021 09:23) Posted:

Correct.  Any merger may not be good news for SMM.  Being a loser, SMM has to accept any terms determined by the winner.  No merger, SMM will die.  KOM can survive on its own.

But an important question SMM SHs has to ponder.  Where is SMM going to get the money to pay KC for merger?

Mar 2022 is an important period for SMM.  No big contract win by then, SMM will stutte
