DBS initiates &lsquo buy&rsquo on Yangzijiang Maritime, citing investments, shipbuilding opportunities

The brokerage&rsquo s target price of S$0.88 represents a 63% upside from the group&rsquo s closing price on Apr 7

[SINGAPORE] DBS Group Research initiated a &ldquo buy&rdquo on maritime investment company Yangzijiang Maritime : 8YZ +9.26% on Wednesday (Apr 8), given the group&rsquo s partnerships in the maritime ecosystem and accelerated capital deployment into new maritime investments.

Analyst Ho Pei Hwa set a target price of S$0.88, representing a 63 per cent upside from the company&rsquo s closing price of S$0.54 on Tuesday.  The counter rose 9 per cent or S$0.05 to close at S$0.59 on Wednesday.

Yangzijiang Maritime was spun off from the maritime investment division of Yangzijiang Financial : YF8 0% and debuted on the Singapore Exchange&rsquo s mainboard on Nov 18, 2025.

The group benefits from Yangzijiang&rsquo s &ldquo global network of shipowners, Chinese and international yards, and financiers&rdquo , Ho said. She added that this has underpinned its &ldquo rapid build-up of an 80-vessel portfolio and over US$700 million of maritime investments deployed within two to three years&rdquo .

Ho also pointed to Yangzijiang Maritime&rsquo s pipeline of 50 new-build vessels, which she expects to be bought over or operated upon delivery by shipowners.

The existing ecosystem, meanwhile, enables Yangzijiang Maritime to leverage &ldquo partnerships with operators and shipyards&rdquo instead of relying on fixed heavy assets. Ho noted that this allows &ldquo flexible capital deployment and optimised capital allocation&rdquo during cyclical fluctuations in the shipping industry.

Growth projections

DBS projects &ldquo 15 to 20 per cent earnings growth, if not higher, over the next few years&rdquo for Yangzijiang Maritime.

The brokerage also expects the group&rsquo s earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation to increase to US$160 million and US$176 million in FY2026 and FY2027, respectively, from US$131 million in FY2025.

Ho said that this will be driven by &ldquo higher-yielding maritime investments and new-build projects&rdquo , which are set to ramp up amid the replacement of an ageing global fleet.

Yangzijiang Maritime posted a net profit of US$66.2 million for the second half of FY2025, down 1 per cent from a year earlier.

Total income, however, rose 13 per cent year on year to US$87.7 million. This came on the back of higher income from maritime fund assets and higher net fair-value gains.

Diversified vessel portfolio and income streams

Yangzijiang Maritime&rsquo s portfolio, which spans tankers, gas carriers and offshore support vessels, enables &ldquo smooth returns&rdquo through shipping and offshore cycles, Ho said.

She noted that the group is positioned to navigate International Maritime Organization-driven decarbonisation requirements, with 96 per cent of its fleet meeting or exceeding current standards.

Ho added that Yangzijiang Maritime can withstand the maritime industry&rsquo s cyclicality due to &ldquo multi-engine earnings&rdquo from recurring shipping, ship financing, shipbuilding and shipbroking income.

The analyst also noted that the group has a &ldquo veteran Chinese shipbuilding figure at the helm&rdquo .

Alongside his position as chairman of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, Ren Yuanli is also Yangzijiang Maritime&rsquo s executive chairman and chief executive officer.

&ldquo In an industry often marked by overcapacity and cyclicality, Ren&rsquo s track record of navigating shipping cycles and delivering through-cycle returns supports investor confidence,&rdquo said Ho.

Sector cyclicality and business risks

Commenting on the risks facing Yangzijiang Maritime, Ho said the group may see &ldquo slower-than-expected capital deployment,... execution risks around new-build projects&rdquo and counterparty default risks.

The group may also be exposed to volatility in the shipping and shipbuilding industries, where a downturn in freight rates, new-build demand or asset values can impact investment returns and project opportunities, she noted.

Nonetheless, she said the group may be positioned to navigate such volatility due to its &ldquo integrated business model&rdquo , which generates multiple income streams.

This Philip joker or what? Start the coverage with TP of $0.69 but stated TP as $0.72 at pg 11 of the report. Anyway, after going through the 2 analyst coverage, in summary, both gave similar profits projection through FY2027 and it is envisaged that as soon as from this year, YZJM should start to show the market that they can made money. A DPS of minimum $0.025 is my short term target for pay out in 2028. The trajectory is relistic or not can be gauged with next 2 sets of financial results. On a side note, maybe YZJF will get coverage soon too. Let' s see.

Phillip Capital  initiates coverage with a BUY rating and a target price of S$0.69. Our target price is pegged to 1.0x P/B FY26e, 11% above peer valuations of 0.9x P/B. We believe this premium is warranted given the Group&rsquo s net cash of S$507mn (27% of market cap), rapid mbook value growth trajectory (S$0.5bn to S$2.0bn in net assets over three years), and differentiated positioning as a full-lifecycle maritime financial platform rather than a pure vessel operator. There is upside to the book value from rising earnings and unrealized gains in newbuilds.

(DBS) YZJ Maritime: Alpha Generator (Initiate with BUY TP S$0.88)

Our TP is based on 1.4x PB, translating to 17x PE, in line with valuation multiple used for Seatrium and shipbuilding peers median PE.

Investment Thesis: Asset-light + Defensive + High Growth + Yield

*Unique integrated shipping/shipbuilding business model: Captures industry tailwinds without owning a shipyard, generating income through Charters, Finance Lease, Vessel Construction and Shipbroking, leveraging strategic partnership with ship operators and yards

*Resilience across cycles. The integrated, asset light model provides stable income stream and resilience across cycle as shipping and shipbuilding tend to counter-cyclical due to lag effects

*Growth + Yield. The combination of growth optionality from newbuilds and predictable income from charters and finance Lease supports a defensive yet high growth profile (15-20%) with 3-4% yield.

*Last but not least, proven track record of founder Ren Yualin support conviction on execution and valuation premium

Key Catalysts:
&bull     ROE enhancement from 6% in FY25 towards 9% or higher with cash deployment
&bull     Double digit earnings growth leveraging on Shipbuilding upcycle, IMO decarbonisation.
&bull     Newsflow on newbuild projects / vessel sales, cash deployment

This stock now give the vibe of queuing at between $0.5 and $0.51 can get like that, regardless of seemingly aggressive upward moments, just like today' s price actions. I think old Ren is right to make noise and highlight how unhappy he was about the undervaluation of the stock. However, make noise is one thing, show the market the money is another. Old Ren was rather aggressive, looking back, within a short 2 years plus, he spin off YZJM from YZJF when YZJF was still finding its foothold. With the benefit of hindsight, we now know it is true, YZJF has to suddenly provide huge provision to take advantage of the reset to wipe clean its balance sheet. Suffice to say, YZJF now start from scratch again and its current valuation is what it is. The market would not give it any premium as it has no profit and suspend paying dividend. In fact, the market has price the stock below its NAV per share and going forward, no profit no talk and old Ren and mdm Liu better start showing the market that YZJF can make money, and fast. As for YZJM, it fare better. After all, it has taken the most lucrative part of the old combined entities, it has profit to show and despite only operated on its own for few weeks before the book closed, it still declare token dividend. However, the same principles applies, YZJM must show the market that it can make money and fast or else no amount of making noise by old Ren is going to move the price up. I am cautiously optimistic that old Ren can delivers within 2 to 3 years. Let' s see.

Phillip Capital Initiates Coverage on Yangzijiang Maritime with BUY Rating, Highlighting Full-Lifecycle Maritime Platform

We are pleased to share a recent initiation report by PhillipCapital on YZJ Maritime, which highlights the Group&rsquo s differentiated positioning within the maritime sector.

As a specialized maritime financial solutions provider spun off from Yangzijiang Financial Holding, YZJ Maritime represents a unique, asset-light play on the structural upswing of the global shipping cycle.

Investment Highlights:

&bull     BUY rating and a target price of S$0.69. The target price is pegged to 1.0x P/B FY26e, 11% above peer valuations of 0.9x P/B.

&bull     Full-Lifecycle Value Capture: Unlike traditional operators, the Group earns at every stage of a vessel' s life&mdash from procurement margins at build (up to 20% below market) to recurring charter income, lease interest, and capital gains upon exit.

&bull     Strategic Pivot to Maritime Assets: In FY25, Maritime Business income surged 61% YoY to US$69.9mn, now contributing 49% of total income as the Group deliberately transitions from cash management to higher-returning shipping assets.

&bull     Fortress Balance Sheet: The Group maintains a highly defensive position, with zero borrowings and a net cash balance of S$507mn, representing approximately 27% of its market capitalisation.

&bull     Favorable Industry Dynamics: With vessel prices at 15-year highs and traditional European banks retreating from ship finance due to Basel IV, YZJ Maritime is strategically positioned to fill the financing gap.

Phillip Capital has initiated coverage with a BUY recommendation and a target price of S$0.69, reflecting confidence in the Group&rsquo s long-term growth trajectory, supported by its expanding fleet, strong deal pipeline, and ability to capitalise on the current upcycle in global shipping markets.

As the maritime industry continues to evolve, YZJ Maritime&rsquo s full-lifecycle platform and disciplined capital deployment strategy position it to deliver sustainable value for stakeholders.

We invite you to read the full report for a comprehensive overview of the Group&rsquo s business model, financial profile, and growth outlook.

eat dinner full come here to talk 3 talk 4.
those want to get rich come listen.

riches in our world are always there, how come some people are rich while others are poor.
it all begin with thoughts. thoughts are things. here we have ren thinking that the green movement has
resulted in huge demand for ships that comply with it. so ren is a man who make thoughts into things.
he has experience, contacts, knowledge and money. so far he making his thoughts come thru with his  actions.  goods things does not happen over night it will take time. in a few years we will see ships being build, completed and sold. money into share holders pocket.
while noone can say sure 100%, think it is at least 90% can happen. shorts are part of the market.
they trade in very short time frame to make money. slow people like me want to make slow but sure
money. why give away a 90% chance ,make good money share now to shorts and those who want to fear you to sell to them cheap cheap. i did not create fear, i just collect cheap as it happen.
stop being a fool to sell away good stocks. in a few years time. a 90% chance win with time is better then those speculative one that 50/50% win/loose probability. if not even if you touch gold also cannot go rich.
think about it. do you want to be rich in a few years time or continue to be fear and constantly change stocks trying to make 3-5% gain. your broker make more then you.
just an after dinner talk talk. but there is true in it.
