my view is that SIA should reduce 380 plane fleets.

Singapore GIC should develop her own HYBRID power planes, am I mad ?????

Lets see whether this counter can sustain the current price with the news yesterday reporting that SIA and Silkair will increase the fuel surcharge.

SIA: its 100% owned unit SIA Cargo has cut freighter capacity by 20%. Mgt noted that the air cargo mkt has shown weakness for the past 9mths, and the depressed demand across all markets give little reason to be optimistic about the near term outlook. Said it expected no improvement in 1HCY12 (traditional low season for the air cargo market) and stubbornly high fuel prices to continue pushing up costs.

JPM estimates this implies a ~10% reduction in SIA’s overall cargo capacity, as the bellyhold cargo capacity will remain. Says this is positive and will boost its load factors and mitigate losses. Recall SIA Cargo’s loss widened to $40m in 4QCY11 vs $17m in 3QCY11.
Still, the house believes SIA is better off than Cathay Pacific which has a more aggressive planned capacity expansion of ~10% this yr, after trimming it down from ~17%. Adds potential upside surprises could come from the tech sector’s restocking and the new iPad 3 shipments, as airlines have the flexibility to adjust their freighter capacity very quickly (within 1-2days vs ~1mth for the passenger business), should there be a pick up in cargo demand.
JPM has an Overweight rating on SIA.

SIA has been supporting the price by buying back its shares when  the price plunged  after a disappointing Q4.  OCBC issued the following report last week:

Singapore Airlines: Operating statistics fall across the board

Singapore Airlines (SIA) reported its Jan 2012 operating statistics.
The parent
airline's passenger capacity (ASK) grew 3.8% YoY while its passenger
traffic (RPK)
gained a smaller 2.4% YoY, resulting in passenger load factor (PLF)
falling to
    77.0%, compared to 78.1% in Jan 2011. SilkAir's RPK again gained a
strong 13.2% YoY
but it recorded an even faster ASK growth of 13.7% YoY. Thus,
SilkAir's PLF also
fell to 76.2%, lower than the 76.5% in Jan 2011. SIA Cargo's freight
capacity (AFTK)
fell 8.5% YoY but its freight traffic (FTK) contracted by 12.8% YoY.
SIA Cargo's
freight load factor (FLF) fell to 58.5%, which is also the first time
that it
dropped below 60% since Apr 2009, from 61.4% in Jan 2011. We maintain
our fair value
estimate of S$10.85/share and HOLD rating on SIA. (Eric Teo

This is a very stubborn [strong]  counter.

Despite all the bad news, weak advance booking for the next few months and filling lesser seats[news from the new paper]

price doesnt drop but climb steadily.

Wats up SIA?

Singapore Airlines overall load factor slip 2.4 points in January to 65.5 per cent compared to 67.9 per cent a year ago due to the Lunar New Year holidays which was in January this year compared to February in 2011. Its very tough for SIA. Fuel prices look like going to stay high with the middle east tensions, and increasing competition from budget airlines, and TigerAir? It's just a little kitten that nvr grows up. Can SIA hit $11 and abv again?

Kim Eng Research is looking for retail investors to carry their baby, TP $14.40! Some of these analysts are not ethical - they should not print something out of this world.

I am puzzled how SIA can maintain high profitability vis-a-vis other intl airlines that incurred operating losses and especially when the Global Aviation Industry is in recession.

Somebody say Govt is subsidising SIA thru the special tax concession on new aircraft purchases that's why SIA keep buying new planes and make money reselling old ones. Don't quite understand this part. But since Temasek owns 56% of SIA they can do that but it is not sustainable.
