The float is very small, and the cash per share is high enough that the share price does not reflect the value of its egg business fully.
I will just hold out and enjoy the 35c dividend.

Well, it is always good to follow your own gut-feel.
Everyone of us will likely take a different route, no hard and fast rule.
Personally speaking, I am not betting there is no correction after xd. It is really highly unlikely, unless everyone is sleeping. In a stock market full of sharks, bet they are already ahead of you.
Also, if you sense that this is not going to be a winning trade, best is to skip it altogether. There are many more counters out there....

That is true, for this case, given that the special dividend is more than half of its principal value.
But of course the gut-feel is it will drop more than 35 cents after xd.
At this point of time, I cant say its right or wrong, just a matter of preference.
Lesson learnt from Baker Tech some years back.

If the share price goes down by exactly 35 cts as you would normally expect, then it doesn' t make sense for you to sell before XD since you would be paying the extra commission on the dividend due to be subtracted from the share price.

Difficult to understand what do you mean by share price not affected.
Share price is driven by market forces, company have no control over it.
Normally, expectedly, logically, after XD, price should correct down by 35 cents from it s previous traded price. So, personal preference, for me, I will usually sell before XD (forgo dividend) where the price should normally peaked.
One thing to note, this counter is quite thinly traded. This imply that you may find it difficult to Sell in the queue. Even if it hit your price, you may not sell the entire lots you put up, thereby losing commission if you need to sell on another day.
Consider carefully. Easy to Buy, Hard to Sell.

This management, as usual, is very stingy with dividends... Let' s just hope they dont splurge it to finance their own salaries for the rest of the decade...
