I work in the aviation industry i know.................

The report that they poached the staff over resulting in the recent incident was not true. As for the company itself, the tightening of foreign labour amid shortage local manpower willing to enter the industry to replace its aging workforce is a cause of concern. With the world facing stunted growth and foreign exchange risks, overseas venture won't provide good returns at least in the short term.

They are sourcing for additional business but like i said they need to set up a lethal marketing team and pay the right person the right amount so that he will be aggressive. They made jetstar/Q pay........ infact rumour has it they poached staff from their competitor hence they did not show up. Then they made Jestar/quantas pay AOG rates which are much higher than normal rates.

Sats use to be a very defensive stock until it breaks the 3 support.
Unfortuantely its diversification plan seems to be a little slow and late.
Traditional income from airlines are tough and many budget airlines account has very tight budget with limited profit here.
Unless SATS can quickly identify some new area....I would not be surprise it can test the 2.85/2.90 price.
Just my personal view.

" sourcing additonal business: ..which was why I put " a little slow & late..
also the point that they lost Jet/Q ( and actually pay to get back the workers so workers did not turn up for the competitor) ...is the concern on this management ..
THEY NEED TO LOST a client then they learn ?  It does not matter they got back this client or in fact temp  to help out....the altitude of mgt losing client tell a little more about their style and I hope this can be corrected quickly.
In the airline bz...it is already so hard to win one client.
Anyway...I am waiting for it to drop after XD. See if 2.90 can hold.  ( not sure and watching )

Sats is begining to diversify. Until there is an increase in their customer base this stock will be under pressure. The recent movement of airlines away from sats has shown them that Sats can do the job better. The airline had to come begging back for help and guess what...... they had to pay thru their noses for spurning the bride.......hee! hee! Will have to wait to see Dec numbers before picking up any more shares. Personally i think they could do a better job at marketing.

Company is in price war with competitor dnata, and with recent entry of a third player, the pie will just get smaller in the mid to long term in terms of total value (competitve pricing and rising operating costs push down profit margins) and market share. The pressure may be offset by additional revenues from the Sports Hub but that still remains to be seen so things seem to be on the negative side currently.

Now convince of Rosesyrup' s stock pick?

SATS&rsquo Q2 profit down 3.3% as cost pressures mount

A lot of people very happy and bought in when it reached a height of nearly $3.50 in OCT 2013.

But I have already warned right from the beginning of the year, Jan 2013.

Must look at fundamental before buying anything.

Alot claimed I sprout nonsense on this forum, so maybe I lucky lucky guess correct only.

Maybank Target (20/8/2014) for SATS = $2.50
SATS (SELL, TP SGD2.50)

Bearing the brunt of tourism shortfall

Investment thesis:
SATS is struggling to contain escalating costs that will pressurise its
margins as its workload eases. Associatesshould remain
weighed down by a persistently weak air cargo market.
With EPS set to fall by 4% in FY3/15E, we expect
a lower DPS of 12 SGD cts (FY3/14: 13 SGD
cts).

Valuation: Our TP of SGD2.50 is based on 16x FY3/15E P/E

Rating catalysts
1) weak passenger traffic at Changi Airport
2) air cargo weakness across the region and
3) cut in DPS
