Malaysian glove makers poised for EU boost as China excluded from public tenders &mdash CIMB

KUALA LUMPUR (June 23): CIMB Securities said Malaysian glove manufacturers could benefit from the European Union&rsquo s (EU) exclusion of Chinese companies in public tenders for medical devices, valued at over &euro 5 million (RM24.5 million).

The exclusion could result in stronger demand from EU buyers seeking alternatives to China-sourced   gloves.

The EU was Malaysia&rsquo s second-largest glove export market by region in 2023, accounting for an estimated 28%&ndash 30% of Malaysia&rsquo s total glove exports, said CIMB

This will limit Chinese companies&rsquo access to approximately &euro 150bn (billion) annually in EU public spending within this segment.

&ldquo While tenders exceeding &euro 5m (million) accounted for only about 4% of total tender count in 2023, they represented around 60% of total tender value,&rdquo said the house in a note on Monday.

The move is a response to the EU concluding that EU companies do not have fair access in China, as Chinese tenders have been heavily biased towards local suppliers that often have artificially low bids, CIMB said.

The research firm has highlighted that glove sales contracts are normally short-term and lower in value, because of the frequent changes in average selling prices (ASPs) and the cost pass-through mechanism employed by industry players.

As a result, the majority of glove orders fall below the &euro 5 million line, or about 287 million pieces, assuming an ASP of US$20 per 1,000 pieces.

&ldquo Additionally, we believe Chinese glove makers could potentially restructure their EU contracts by splitting larger orders into smaller tranches to remain below the &euro 5m sales threshold, mitigating the impact of the procurement restriction,&rdquo it said.

CIMB expects any uptick in EU demand for gloves from other countries, including Malaysia, to be short-term, three- to six months at best, as the EU and China have expressed willingness to negotiate.

This would likely happen during the EU-China Summit, scheduled for July.

The potential increase in demand would be an additional boost for the sector, on top of expected expansion in the US rubber-glove market.

Yes, I'm aware of it, Bro

UOBKH had revised the TP but other
analysts still sanguine and their TP
much higher.

Anyway, UOBKH also downgraded Sats
with TP$2.70 after tariff war started and
slipped ard $2.4+ ... But now, look at Sats
price, way much higher

No doubt there are some challenges for RS,
Boss Wong still optimistic and wl still ushering
quarterly dividends .

Quote fm one recent analyst rpt .
"If investors stay patient, they should see better
financial numbers fm Riverstone soon, and its
share price could rebound in line with results"

PDYODD and happy investing

After release of 1Q 25 result,
UOB KH had on 9 May cut TP from $1.16 to $0.82

After Malaysia NDR held on 11 Jun 25,
UOB KH had on 19 Jun (yesterday) further cut TP from $0.82 to $0.71

Sharing above with you as not sure if you aware of the revised TP by UOB KH since you mentioned UOB KH

fm past few years results after covid

RS resilient biz model enable them to generate

dividends.

Boss Wong knows it well.  Follow him

The recent weakness in share prices due to Midddle East
conflict offer opportunity to buy at lower level .  Price wl
go abv 70 again as there' s no direct impact for RS and
they are selling FOB even with the US tarfiffs

Last wk, UOBKH called for trading buy with TP $0.80

RS maybe  one of the potential beneficiary fm the $5Bil injection
fund by our gov  as suggested by MaybankKE

PDYDD and  happy investing

This vindicates what I said about how their IR sucks.
IR firm can arrange more analysts to cover for them. UOBKH may seek the feeds from their IR.

Bad bad bad

there is perfection nothing wrong with RS.
Company is in a much much better stead than before Covid
Flushed with cash now. Zero debt.
However good a company is, it is useless if the investor management is bad.

It is Boss Wong?s job to manage and run the company well.

As for the market worth it is the IR job.

When will people come to agree that RS IR sucks and doing a really poor management?
