Both Neo Group and Jumbo trading at 26 TTM P/E but Jumbo' s P/B is 6.4 while Neo' s is 3.2.  Jumbo seems more expensive.

I am not writing Jumbo off as yet. Cos I see I restaurant group with good branding and good management, as a good hedge during global economic downtimes, when many sectors like manufacturing, import & export, property development are badly hit.

F & B, especially in China, is a bit more resilient I think, cos there will always be many eager mouths out there, who are relatively  more immune to economic downturn, given the  swelling middle class rank in China who crave for better quality of life  and more choices.

Wait.

Will Jumbo Group add spice to your portfolio?

SINGAPORE (Aug 16): DBS Group Research has maintained its " buy" recommendation for Jumbo Group, with a target price raised from 72 cents to 77 cents, following the group' s 3QFY2016 results.

To recap, the group' s 3Q earnings had doubled to $3.4 million as sales rose 14% to $32.7 million. The sales growth came from the contribution from two new Jumbo Seafood restaurants in Shanghai, which were opened in August last year and January this year, as well as increased sales from its existing restaurants.

What I will be looking at for the next few quarters is whether they can manage the costs whilst increasing the revenue.

For the latest quarter, increase in revenue is 13.8%, whilst increase in cost of sales  is 13.6%. Not quite ideal. Like SATS, they have to introduce automation in the kitchen and make use of IT  as much as possible  to cut down manpower costs.

McDonalds is profitable not so much because the food is fantastic, but because they are able to streamline operations and run a very lean and efficient operation worldwide.
