Yangzijiang Shipbuilding ? was the worst hit on the Singapore Exchange as at 9.30 am, with a 5.3 per cent drop erasing more than S$700 million in its market capitalisation. Its shares fell further by the midday trading break to be 5.6 per cent down.

The shipbuilder was likely affected by a drop in Maersk earnings and plans for the Danish shipping company to cut 1,000 jobs. Shares of Maersk in Copenhagen fell 3.7 per cent by close on Thursday

 

2025 Orderbook & Overall Outlook

Year-to-date total new orders

By mid-November 2025, Yangzijiang had secured 50 newbuild orders worth ~US$2.17 billion, including large numbers of container ships, bulk carriers and LPG carriers. The company orderbook stood at 245 vessels with a value of about US$22.8 billion and deliveries scheduled out to 2030. 

 

Maersk&rsquo s weaker earnings effect on YZJS is lagged and diluted, because shipyards depend on global orderbooks and multi-year backlogs, not one customer or one year&rsquo s liner earnings.

Yangzijiang already has forward visibility:

• Won ~US$1.5B new orders in 2025.  
• Many deliveries scheduled 2027&ndash 2028 &rarr earnings already locked in.  
  
  
  Shipyards sell to many owners:
• Container liners (Maersk, MSC, COSCO etc.)
• Leasing companies
• Regional shipowners
  So one liner&rsquo s earnings doesn&rsquo t directly hit YZJ unless it reflects industry-wide capex cuts.

YZJ Shipbuilding - FY2025 Focus

Results:

• Strong half-year earnings growth with sharp margin expansion and robust profitability in 1H2025.    
• Full FY2025 results not yet publicly finalized in regulatory filings at the time of this summary, but market commentary suggests continued strong operating performance through 2025.    

Dividends:

• Final dividend for FY2024 was S$0.12 per share.    
• FY2025 dividend is generally expected to be S$0.12 per share again, with typical timing of declaration around late Feb Mar 2026 and payment in May 2026.

Similar trend last 6 months on covering shorts, positive news and step upwards higher than last peak. Also price spikes (big buys more than selling) happen in the first two hours and last two hours of trading. It will be fun this 3 to 5 pm!

At the end of the day we are at the mercy of the BBs. They will decide when they want to push down or up. It went down when least expected and likewise it will shoot up when we have given up.
