Spending that amt of $M on a dep asset does not really helps CDG ? Esp its profit and now they hv a lot of asset to worry abt ( rental out ? )
At the end what is more likely wld be the bottom line ? ( as dividend depends on good margin )
Definately not a good use of $$ w Uber against Grab.
Again , the next few qtr of results will tell more.

Here' s another drag to ComfortDelGro' s profits from its Uber tie-up

Its promotional rental rates of $38-$50 a day are too high.

ComfortDelGro Corporation' s (CDG) earnings may be dragged by its acquisition of a 51% stake in Uber' s subsidiary Lion City Holdings (LCH), DBS Equity Research said.

According to an analysis, its advertised promotional rental rates ranging from $38-$58 a day is not profitable for the firm.

However, assuming there is harmonisation in rental rates and the promotional rates are subsidized by Uber, LCH may still be able to make 1-4% profits.

However, this does not take into account significant cuts in rental rates for taxis.

" While we understand that CDG has introduced various schemes in a bid to be more competitive against private hire vehicles (PHV) rental companies, the rental gap between taxis and PHV remains," said DBS analyst Andy Sim.

At this stage, it is unclear if rental rates would move closer, with a narrower gap between the two categories, Sim added.

Moreover, DBS Equity Research forecasts a 12% fall in taxi revenue in Singapore in 2018, following a similar 12% for the year.

I think this alliance doesnt make sense.

If I am comfort, i rather look into other areas for growth (i.e. SPH going into nursing home)

or lower rental to attract more drivers, either way , the share price will still fall, but they are able to put more cars on roads, rather than burning cash like grab/Uber

or dig LKY from grave back to the days that private car are banned.haha

Everyone knows comfortdelgro, long term is bearish, until uber/grab burst(very unlikely).
The question is whether the current price is cheap enough for investors to buy. I expect dividends to drop to 3% @ $1.90.
I prefer to enter around $1.8x or lower. Otherwise there is no value to buy if you offset the negatives.

as what the market says, its not a good investment by comfort. It' s a lose situation.. You go beg them to collaborate, still expect candies meh? It' s a loss making business yet still only discount 10% from NAV.. Why NAV in the first place when you should be doing CF analysis based on payback for such acquisitions... Cars have short period of lifespan, and with the fast changing environment, whatever NAV is too good to be true also.... Impairments necessary? Same as its own taxi fleet... This sort of questions should be answered.. And the additional cost in terms of marketing/promo/ rental reversion rates for taxi to PHV, all these cost did not appear. No synergy savings mentioned at all as well.. Not sure how and when, but most likely, i remain in the same position that a dividend cut will be necessary to conserve cash to fight this long battle...
