Short term may lose money (or may not) because it is very volatile currently. Another important date to lookout is 8 June onwards when the right shares become listed. Market will be flooded with more than double the existing shares.
Generally, market is expecting a Gap-down upon opening. But the main question is: Gap-down from which level? Probable estimates $4.50, $4.00, $3.50?? It is everybody guess if it will be lower than its current price.
But, if your friend is thinking about long term 2 years and beyond, then I would say might as well Buy now while it is still below $4/=. Once bought, walk away and avoid market talks. High chance of profit in 2 years and beyond.

Hi Steven,
Your shareholding is cash basis, then you subscribe to the $3 shares and execess using cash. must apply by 5.30pm today (28/05), better do so soonest, don' t waste it.
Those holding their rights under CPF Investment Scheme, will use funds from CPF ordinary accounts. By the way deadline alreday passed for this |

Day high .... $3.85
Stated in both of Rights Shares & Mandatory Convertible Bonds application forms, submit your application through an ATM of a Participating Bank by 9.30PM.
But some advised me to do it before 5PM. So if you really want to subscribe it, do not wait until last minute...do it earlier better.Decisive ( Date: 28-May-2020 16:21) Posted:

Yes , if unwanted by shareholders, then I will get the allocation for excess.
Just trying my luck.

Can try for excess, but I don' t think you will get it because, as you said, different platform.
Heres why. When you bought using CPF, your investment bank has your records. CDP dont.
And if you want excess, you must apply thru' your investment bank. You cannot do it via ATM as nobody else have your record for holding SIA shares other than your investment bank. And CDP will only have the records of the Rights(BI) you bought cash.
Hope I am wrong...so that you can be successful. Haha..

Most welcome, just sharing what I know.
I sold all my Rights under CPF on the first day of Rights trading. Keeping the mother CPF share (200 shares only).
I do not have any SIA shares under cash account. Bought some Rights from secondary market using cash.  I am actually  still an original shareholder but under different platforms. Wonder if they still consider me as original shareholder???
Anyway i still subscribed for some excess via ATM yesterday, see if can get allocation bo |

I see.... that is interesting regarding CPF. So, unlikely anybody would want to top up using cash to try for excess. If unsuccessful, money would be stucked inside. Thanks for the insight.
Anyway, since SIA will likely take a few years to recover, it may be a good option to use some CPF funds to purchase some SIA shares |

Letting the MCB Rights lapse, as too complex for me.

Just the rights at $3.  Forget about the MCB as these are for long term and likely have low liquidity.

Thanks for advice.
Those who bought SIA shares using CPF will also able to exercise their Rights and subscribe and also able to apply for excess.
If CPF stock limit not enough, can top-up using cash. This top-up will form part of the CPF contributions and cannot be withdrawn by the CPF member, i.e. if apply for excess & not sucessful or smaller qty is alloted, the cash top-up could not be withdrawn.  |

For your case, keep your current shares and also subscribe to your rights at $3 to prevent massive dilution.
SIA should return to its right value at above $4 imo. Trade w care without fear if you think SIA is good. Cheers |

It will be a huge contradiction if you do not wish to subscribe the Rights, and not Sell your mother Shares now at 3.8x
Also, you did not sell your Rights on/before 21 May.
Do a calculation & hopefully you will understand why.
