Be well acquainted with the term SGX WATCH LIST. These are companies with either
1. The management is not interested in creating value of their company
2. They do not have any core business. Their revenues are almost glitch.
3. The directors are sometimes paid huge remuneration while their companies make dismal profits or successive losses,
4. They prefer to dilute their shareholding by issuing shares, rather than take a bank loan. Or possibly no bank wants to give loan to them
5. They change business every other year.
6. They consecutively make losses. SGX will kick them out if they cannot make a profit for more than 3 consecutive years.
7. They have missing assets. Their cash are sometimes given away as loans to other related companies until you or the accredited accountant that review their company cannot fully trial where the money goes. Sometimes the accountant would just say that there is going concern in their report.
8. Some are actually well run companies that ended up on the wrong side when they are hit by falling sales due to competition.
9. Lastly, you may not even get back any of your investment if SGX delist them and they cannot hack up an exit plan to raise cash because their assets are only captured as book value that they cannot monetise.
If time willing, I can write a book and publish. I know some listed companies here that are doing some or most of the above. I can name and shame them here. I think you may of some such as Noble, but there are many others. Some are potentially on the path of being on SGX watch list.
