FY2022 results likely to be another record for Samudera Shipping!
Samudera Revises its Yearly Revenue Target to US$ 1 Billion
- by  Damas Jati

Samudera &ndash PT Samudera Indonesia Tbk (SMDR) &ndash has revised its yearly revenue target as the trade demand was again back to increase following the relaxation of China lock down and the freight rate was steady at the high level.
These prospective indicators have supported Samudera to increase its 2022 yearly revenue target to US$ 1 billion, from US$700 million target contracted in the early year.
&ldquo Now demand is still high, even tends to be higher following the relaxation of China  lockdown.  Containerized trade seems to again increase,&rdquo Samudera President Director Bani Mulia has said as  Kontan  quoted.
Such high demand, according to Bani, had kept the freight rate steady at high level. These indicators have supported Samudera to revise its yearly target of 2022. &ldquo We have increased our target to US$ 1 billion, from US$ 700 million target set up in early year. In the first half, we are very optimistic to reach US$ 500 million,&rdquo Bani said.
As reported earlier, in 2021, Samudera booked revenue of US$ 672.91 million, a 37.09% increase year on year  (yoy). This supported the company to enjoy a fantastic growth in net profit to US$ 93.04 million, from loss of US$ 3.34 million in earlier year (2020).
Bani explained that Samudera continued its business expansion through procurement of 10 new fleets, including containerships, tankers, and bulkers.
Of these total new fleets, one tanker has been delivered and now being in operation, while another tanker and two containerships are scheduled to be delivered before the end of this year.
Maersk sees no let up in surging cost of shipping goods
in International Shipping News 23/06/2022
The cost of shipping goods has surged 25-30% since the start of the pandemic due to array of
inflationary pressures that are &ldquo unlikely to abate in the short term,&rdquo world No. 1 container shipping
company Maersk told Reuters on Wednesday.
Maersk is viewed as a bellwether for global trade as it transports goods for retailers and consumer
companies from Walmart WMT.N and Nike to Unilever .
Higher supply chain costs have rocked the retail and packaged goods industries since the start of the COVID-19 outbreak,
particularly over the past year as economies have started to recover, with logjams at key ports holding up containers of
everything from food and health products to toys.
&ldquo I think some more inflation (will) come through in the years to come,&rdquo Vincent Clerc, chief executive of Ocean and
Logistics at Maersk said in an interview during the Consumer Goods Forum&rsquo s Global Summit conference in Dublin.
&ldquo Logistics is very energy and labour intensive, and those are two of the areas of the economy that are subject to significant
inflationary pressure.&rdquo

Business Prospects
Sector-wise: Tanker freight rates improved on the back of reduced tonnage supply and an
increase in ton-mile demand as a result of the sanctions on Russia
Samudera Shipping Line:
FY21 was a record year for Samudera as revenue and net profit are at its highest for the past
5 years.
Samudera Shipping Line has chartered in an additional 6 newly built vessels of which 2 have
already been deployed and the rest will be delivered in 4Q22. A long term charter contract
has already been secured for these vessels. This brings the total number of chartered in
vessels to ~24. (~71% of fleet size)
Most of the vessels are chartered in for ~18 months.
Recently, Samudera also announced purchase of a tanker MT Saranga from India for
US$12.5 Mn. This will lead capacity expansion at much needed time.
Current rate hikes and inflation concerns may be a blessing in disguise for shipping sector. They may deter over investment in building new ships, preventing oversupply of shipping capacity which usually leads to the next bust in the shipping cycle. A restrained increase in shipping capacity relative to recovering demand 1-2 years later will sustain reasonable freight rates. My humble opinion...
Looks like a bear rally has started in US markets on Fri night. Will it spill over to Sg market next week?

Trying hard to go up...may burst next week
Possible. US markets closed relatively flat on Fri and will not be open on Mon.
Without US markets to ka chiau, counters with healthy balance sheets and good dividends likely to rebound.
I feel US markets need to come down from their excessive valuations anyway, even without rate hikes and inflation concerns. Problem is they drag down good undervalued counters in Sg market.

I am doing shipping.
Now rate dropped alot and demand is not same as last year.
Is better to sell now,
Singapore to Jakarta used to be 500 USD / Teus
Now going at around 300 USD / Teus.
Doing well or doing better is another thing.
Dont think it will do any better than last year
