ThaiBev, as a conglomerate, has been facing some challenges in recent years, and there have been several factors that could explain their struggles. Here' s a quick rundown of what might be affecting them:
1. Changing Consumer Preferences
In recent years, there' s been a shift toward healthier, more sustainable lifestyles. As a company with heavy investments in alcoholic beverages, particularly beer and spirits, ThaiBev could be facing pressure from the increasing consumer interest in non-alcoholic alternatives and wellness trends.
2. Economic Slowdown
Thailand, like many countries, has been experiencing slower economic growth in recent years. This can negatively impact consumer spending, especially on non-essential items like alcohol. The COVID-19 pandemic also took a toll on the hospitality sector, which in turn hurt beverage sales, especially in bars and restaurants.
3. Competition
The beverage market in Asia is fiercely competitive. ThaiBev is not only competing with local brands but also international giants like AB InBev (which owns Budweiser) and Diageo (which owns Johnnie Walker). Global market share is increasingly fragmented, and ThaiBev&rsquo s ability to maintain its position in a crowded market is under pressure.
4. Brand Perception
Some of ThaiBev' s key products, such as Chang Beer, have faced fluctuating brand perception, particularly in the premium segment where more established or craft options are taking hold. Younger generations are less inclined to buy mass-market beer, which impacts companies like ThaiBev.
5. International Expansion Challenges
ThaiBev has been making efforts to expand internationally, particularly into markets like China and Vietnam, but expanding beyond Southeast Asia can be tricky. They face regulatory hurdles, competition from local players, and the challenge of adapting their products to new consumer preferences.
6. Rising Input Costs
Just like many other businesses globally, ThaiBev has had to contend with rising input costs&mdash whether it' s the raw materials for brewing, transportation, or labor. These rising costs eat into profit margins and complicate their financial performance.
7. Debt Levels and Restructuring
ThaiBev has also been dealing with significant debt levels, partly due to its acquisitions, such as the purchase of the distillery business and other major investments. Servicing that debt, along with ongoing restructuring efforts, may be impacting their profitability.
8. Political Uncertainty
Like many Thai businesses, ThaiBev operates in a politically sensitive environment. Thailand has experienced political unrest and instability, and this can create a more unpredictable business climate. It can affect both consumer confidence and overall market conditions.
It&rsquo s a mix of external economic pressures, internal competition, and a shifting marketplace. However, ThaiBev is also a large, established company with a wide portfolio, so it&rsquo s possible they will pivot or adjust their strategies to navigate these hurdles.

High volume because at this price range, its a very good buy. Dividend at 4.7%/year. Those that are cash rich will usually look for these type of stocks to place some of their money. Much better than buying Gov bond

I have collect my dividend today.
These past few days, ThaiBev is on top volumes. Does anyone knows what is going on? Is there any good news coming forward?

Wonder if this  2.0 billion multicurrency debt issuance program is for beerco ipo?
11:13 PM EDT, 06/04/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Thai Beverage (SGX:Y92) established a $2.0 billion multicurrency debt issuance program, according to a Wednesday filing with the Singapore Exchange.
Net proceeds from the issuance of bonds under the program will be used for general corporate purposes, investments and business expansion.
DBS Bank has been appointed as the sole arranger and dealer of the program.
Shares of the company were down over 1% in recent trading.
Thanks for the pov. The issue is, if they know all this (applies to both TB & Olam) - which I believe if they are good managers they should - why go to town with their half-baked IPO plans time and again. What lessons have they learnt from each announcement & pull-back, if any? All this stinks of some kind of market manipulation.

To be fair, TB acquired the beer business on high valuations previously so it would actually be value destruction if they proceeded to push out the IPO at the expense of getting it out to market at the right multiples. They are at least not behaving recklessly in that regard although admittedly the share price performance and TSR have been really disappointing.

| Very true. Biggest disaster. ThaiBev and Olam have been crying wolf on their listing plans for their sunsidiaries for years. Both are languishing at multi year lows. Retail investors are being severely punished while the management(s) reward themselves with share options etc |

I bought ThaiBev at 48c. Now I am stuck with this stock because the share price is not moving, but goes down instead. With large volume traded, is ThaiBev oversold?

| Online news states that this 20th June is the AGM. Does anyone knows is there any good news? The share price had dropped from 50c downwards. Will the share price goes back to 48c?
I believe people will go to drink beer even if the price goes up. Drinking of beer is an essential part of human life.
I hope the share price will go back to at least 48c. The shareholders and the investors will be happy to see the share price goes back to their normal trading price.

Based on my understanding, the official AGM was already conducted earlier this year in Thailand on 31 Jan. This is mandated for companies domiciled in Thailand to conduct their AGM in Thailand but as a form of good practice and also to have engagements with shareholders, Thai Bev holds this Annual Information Meeting for shareholders in Singapore. During the session, there will be presentation and Q& A and from past years' observations, apart from shareholders, investors and analysts also attend to gain insights on the business developments, outlook. It is a good chance to also meet all the various business unit heads who will usually speak to their respective businesses. Unlike the usual AGM, there will be no voting on resolutions at this meeting given that this is more of an engagement held by the company.
Not sure if this clarifies some of the questions but sharing past observations if useful as been following them for many years.
