Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) has expanded its purpose-built student accommodation portfolio with the acquisition of seven assets in the United Kingdom for £ 411 million (S$740 million).
This will add 2,383 beds to SPH' s portfolio, raising it to a total of 7,726 beds across 18 cities in the UK and Germany, the media group said on Monday

While the Covid-19 pandemic has put a hold on all non-essential travel, and has affected universities just as much as any other industry, there are signs that demand is still strong from overseas students to study in the UK &ndash and that people will make the move as and when it&rsquo s safe to do so.

The country&rsquo s biggest media group is working with DBS Group Holdings Ltd., HSBC Holdings Plc and Oversea-Chinese Banking Corp. on the potential sale of trust units backed by university student accommodation in the U.K., according to the people.
The initial public offering could take place in Singapore as soon as the second half of this year, said the people, who asked not to be named as the information is private.
