Base on GE result n UOB .....I am very concern on the $$ set aside for badloans by OCBC ....been normally conservative ...this can be important on
their Q3.  Other then that , I think OCBC shld be performing a better Q3 then Q2.
ANyway ...tmr morning we were know .
Currently ....USA election situation is affecting STI far more. :(

It may even be weeks before we have a new president. So trade very carefully over this month. Bank news this week should reveal further provisions for bad debts and a conservative outlook in the face of uncertainties in the world polically and pandemically.

Great Eastern Holdings:  The insurance arm of OCBC on Wednesday posted a  40 per cent rise in net profit to S$287.9 million  for the third quarter ended Sept 30, from S$205.1 million a year ago. This was mainly due to the higher valuation of investments, on the back of improved financial market conditions during the quarter, the company said. Great Eastern shares closed flat at S$17.78 on Tuesday.

Good for OCBC.

I am heartened by their pre-emptive credit provisioning in view of the uncertainties from COVID 19 pandemic. CET1 ratio of 14% seems adequate for now, only just for now. All in all, a heartening result well within expectations.

UOB Group (" Group" ) reported 3% quarter-on-quarter (" QoQ" ) improvement in operating profit for the third quarter of 2020 (" 3Q20" ) as margins and fees recovered. Net earnings for 3Q20 was S$668 million, 5% lower than the second quarter of 2020 (" 2Q20" ) and 40% lower than the third quarter of 2019 (" 3Q19" ), due to the pre-emptive build-up of credit allowance of S$339 million this quarter. Net earnings for the first nine months of 2020 (&ldquo 9M20&rdquo ) stood at S$2.23 billion, 33% lower than a year ago. The softer performance was a result of declining margins, slower customer activities and pre-emptive credit provisioning in view of the uncertainties from the COVID-19 pandemic. The Group&rsquo s balance sheet remains robust with ample liquidity and strong Common Equity Tier 1 (CET1) ratio at 14.0%. Together with a credit reserve of S$2.71 billion built-up for non-impaired assets, the Group is well positioned to navigate through this difficult time.
