Yes correct. You mentioned " now" . That is the key word. As Sheng Siong opens branches overseas and in key areas, they are reaching out into densely populated regions. They are also doing vertical integration that differentiates itself from purely online retail who effectively act as retail stores without the vertical integration depth that Sheng Siong has gone into. It can be its achilles hill, or it can be the key to its future in beating competitors.

What I just mentioned doesnt only affect food products. Look at our own factories in Singapore - Open, close, open, close. Start work, stop work, start work, stop work. Even if operations can stabilise to adapt to new patterns, it would take a long while. Our current logistics globally still cannot even adapt after 1 year - Logistics prices are still rising due to insufficient capacity arising from longer custom checks, etc etc with this new pattern of everyday life.

Look globally what is happening... Prices are escalating because supply cannot meet demand. Hence prices escalate. With climate change, the virus affecting production in factories, etc, supply is already having difficulties upkeeping with demand growth.  Who say bet once in a blue moon kind of thing? The pandemic just gives a taste of what it is like in the much longer term... With increasing globalisation, comes increasing proliferation of diseases that affect livestocks, etc etc. We already have plenty of these problems since the past - H5N1, etc etc affecting supplies. These will only become more pronounced with time.

What supply cannot meet demand? You bet on once in the blue moon panic buy?

In an ever increasing global population, where supply cannot meet demand, and there is escalating prices, physical retail still trumps. People will rush to buy goods physically rather than online. It is a matter of time only unless today we have limitless supplies. Already, we have seen it happen during this pandemic. And with the rise of China with many ordinary citizens striving for the " American dream" of big houses, big cars, unlimited consumption as long as you have money, then physical retail stalls will be increasingly more important in the retail space. Online can never compete in this case.

Traditional supermarket is handicapped in online war. It is a joke that Ntuc FairPrice try to justify its online purchase service fee. It just exposes that their business model is outdated. Ppl have automated sorting system whereas they still depend on hand, and want consumer to pay for it. What a joke.

There is no need to have full lockdown aka circuit breaker. Why? Simply because 82% of the population is vacinated. The message is clear, go for vaccination so that you can live normally. The government will be slapping their own faces if they annouced circuit breaker.
Looked at NZ, they have also given up on lockdown. They have decided to live with the virus from now on.
