You are right, market is forward looking. The bad provision has already been priced in, that' s why the price has been going down from 20. Now is to look forward but because the next quarterly report will be in April, i expect a slower ride towards that date.

Results are not inspiring, but it' s a mistake to look back, coz the stock market always look forward.

I' m totally surprised by the huge provisions for China, why deh?  Trade Finance is always short term and a bank like DBS would not risk it on frivolous luxury arty farty exports and imports.        And so, if it' s serious goods China would never ever default on a trade, coz it would mean total recall, like noone will trust any Chinese banks anymore.    Default will ruin China!    For eg, if China imports commodities, the letter of credit that is issued by a Chinese bank would guarantee payment upon delivery of the goods, hence DBS would only be hit by bad debt if the Chinese bank do not pay up on maturity of the LC.     And if the Chinese bank do not pay up, it would be blackmarked, noone will accept their LC or guarantee.   And China will not get any goods if it' s banks continue defaulting on LCs.     A complete shutdown on imports will kill China!

So why the heck is the DBS financial controller providing so much for China trade?      Is there a crack in risk management?        Is DBS dealing with small town Chinese banks, and why did this happen?      Can' t believe the big banks are defaulting on LCs. Can' t believe it at all.    Do we have some sandbagging?      And why did Mr Gupta allow sandbagging?

Totally devastated by the DBS results.    I can' t understand what' s going on.

Really, Mr Gupta gotta shake up his bank team, risk management is not something to be taken lightly, by the looks of it, there' s some goofing going on when that much provisions are made for China trade finance.

Having said that, price action for DBS is not decided, a lot will depend on how the world reads it' s strategic manouvres, very important is Mr Gupta and his words of wisdom and guidance.  If he can' t say it, then DBS will definitely see a price correction. even though it' s hit 4 bln, and it' s because the stock market never look back, it' s always looking forward into 2016.     Nomura is very optimistic, it sees DBS as the best SG bank to invest in, and for the very same reasons we all believe in, it' s got the best.

DBS likely to hit 20 dollars again.....good luck...

DBS still makes $4.05 B.. and dividend of 0.30
BV is $16.11, p/BV of 1.21 which is the lowest among local banks.
Results are satisfactory as worst.
Again time will tell. :))

DBS has price in the poor result so it will hover and hopefully incrementally go up

ok my bad..just the may dividend ex date changed to late april 27th lol..

anyway...what do u guys think now ?

now we really know why from 28th to 4th.daily got 25millions short seller..sighzz...

anyway yea px action crrently is stable.

Dividends

For the financial year ended 31 December 2014, the Directors have recommended a final one-tier tax
exempt dividend of 2 cents for each DBSH non-voting redeemable convertible preference share
(&ldquo CPS&rdquo ), and a final one-tier tax exempt dividend of 30 cents for each DBSH ordinary share

DBSH Ordinary share
Interim one-tier tax exempt dividend* of 28.0 cents (2013: 28.0 cents )
Final one-tier tax exempt dividend of 30.0 cents (2013: 30.0 cents )

Two questions-

1)  dividend ex date is 27th april 2014 and there would be another one on 11th may 15 and also August?   so we woud have three dividend payout in 2015

2) total esti dividend for april and may is 0.28+0.3 = 0.58?

if so..based on current price of 19.39.+0.58= 19.97 worth? ( if the price stay constant la...lol)

enlighten me if im wrong..trying to see whether is it worth to keep for the dividend.

The price action is not that bad....the price has already taken into account of the missed forecast previously. That is why has been going down.

Still, the volume is not that high so I guess DBS is still in the books of many funds.

Looking at the volume, guess BBs just focusing on squeezng DBS downwards while OCBC and UOB are spared.

This is just Deutsche bank forecast....which cant and shld not cause the drop over the last 3 days. ...anyway Tue 10th will be real judgement day >
DBS is still the strongest local bank....:))

SINGAPORE (Feb 5): DBS Group Holdings ( Financial Dashboard)' 4Q2014 earnings are likely to be the weakest among the three Singapore banks, although the lender is still the best placed to benefit from rising interest rates this year, according to Deutsche Bank.

DBS is likely to report earnings of $900 million for the December quarter, said Deutsche Bank analyst Franco Lam.

That would be 12% more than what it earned a year earlier but 11% lower compared to 3Q2014.

" The weaker quarter was mostly negatively affected by fees, trading income, seasonally-higher operating expenses and a slight trend up in bad debt provisions," Lam wrote in a note.

Weaker trading activities could be the result of a weakening Chinese currency, he said.

Net interest income should improve, though, supported by " decent" lending growth of 3% q-o-q and steady margins.

On DBS' s asset quality, " most of the deterioration" will continue to stem from South Asia and Southeast Asia, he said.
