As long as SMRT keep up the " good" work, CDG should be able to bag the Thompson East Coast line - political cost of awarding it to SMRT will be too big. But I think the Cross Island Line, to be completed by 2030, this main high capacity line will definitely go to SMRT.

The Taxi segment is very worrying as idle rates shot up from 1% to 3% signaling an over supply! With competitor going into an all out price war with way lower daily rental rates, earnings from Taxi biz is likely to continue be lower from 2017 to 2020 before stabilizing.
On the other hand Bus and Train segment should show positive growth as they have won new bus route contracts and the 3rd stage of down town line will be up. The big catalyst for 2017 would be the new thompson-east brown line contract, which there are only two bidders CDG vs SMRT... I estimate a 70-80% chance for CDG to take this one down as SMRT continues to be very poorly managed with still lots of train faults. We should know the results pretty soon, maybe in Q3?

An article by Motley Fool on the taxi business segment of ComfortDelgro Corp in its latest 1Q 17 results. The taxi business segment now contributes 36.2% of the total operating profits of ComfortDelgro in 2016 and is one of the largest contributors apart from the public services transport business segment which contributes 38.6% of total operating profits in 2016. Thus, the performances of these two business segments are paramount to ComfortDelgro' s overall performance.
In the 4Q 2016 earnings report, ComfortDelgro already warned that its taxi business segment will revenue will be lower in 2017. True enough, the revenue for the taxi business segment in 1Q 17 saw a close to 6% y-o-y decline. One important information glimpsed from the article is that the decline for the taxi businesses across the local and some of the overseas markets are due to lower operating or smaller fleet.
From the article, the taxi business segment both locally and overseas markets are facing keen competition as mentioned by ComfortDelgro' s CEO. In the local market, private hire operators like Uber and Grab could be the competitors which have given ComfortDelgro the rub in the shoulder.
Watch out the next few quarters of developments in ComfortDelgro' s financial results especially its taxi business segment which is one of the main contributor to operating profits to see if there are improvements amidst the keen competition in its local and overseas markets.
