1) I believe Nio is building more cars, and th opening up of China after pandemic will further push up their car volume. EV market in China is huge, and is enough to feed Nio on the premium market
2) The battery swap station in the long run will be good for Nio, it is like building an extra layer of eco-system besides the usual charging stations
3) Nio is very focus on making premium EV, and stay on that course for good. This has to do with the strong leadership under Li Bing, he is not called the Elon Musk of China for nothing. I invest in Nio because of its leadership

I am actually quite positive with Nio despite the current turbulences they are facing. There are signs that Nio is turning the corners and is expecting breakeven for 2023 (if this happened, Nio will fly).
The semi-conductors used for automotive businesses are not the high end type mainly used in telecommunication, therefore they should be spared from the trade dispute with US. China IC makers should be able to assure their supplies.

How to outdo in technology? Very soon US will impose restrictions on the semiconductor chips..

They can still outdo competitors if they stay above them in technology. Even though their margins have dropped, their cars still have the technological advantage. The cash pile they have will roughly last them 2 years if they burn cash at current rate if William Li is smart enough, they should have some cost cutting measures like outsourcing battery swap to others to reduce their cash burn.

And by the time they get there, the market already saturated and filled with all competitors. There is no chance for them to recoup the big losses.

I personally think they are stuck with the battery swap thing, not cheap to build n run, and the only way to sustain is the takeup of baas. If they don't even sell enough cars, where then is the increase in take up rate for baas?

William Li needs to have some cost cutting measures, expansion without much sales is a recipe for more dilution down the road.

William Li should sell his company to Li Auto, really crappy management
NIO Inc. is expected* to report earnings on 03/01/2023 before market open. The report will be for the fiscal Quarter ending Dec 2022. The reported EPS for the same quarter last year was $-0.21. NIO has a "high" Earnings Quality Ranking (EQR) for the 1st week.
William Li is a bad steward of the company some models hardly sell even 20k cars he already roll out new models, don't know what to say about this guy. If I were him, I will roll out some hybrid models to take on Li Auto head on.

Nio shares may have turned the corner, but more roadblocks lie ahead
Nio was listed in Singapore in 2022, alongside listings in the United States and Hong Kong. 
SHARES of Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker Nio : NIO -1.39% seem to have turned the corner in recent months.
 
The counter had fallen 45.6 per cent from its debut price of US$16.90 in its secondary listing on the Singapore Exchange in May 2022 to an all-time low of US$9.19 just six months later in November.
 
However, it has since showed signs of bouncing back.
 
In the year to date, the counter has gained 11.9 per cent to close at US$11.31 on Tuesday (Jan 17). This is also 23.1 per cent higher than its trough two months ago.
 
But Nio might still encounter some roadblocks in the near term, as it grapples with operational inefficiency, compressed vehicle sales margin and a potential price war.
 
In an internal letter to employees on Jan 1, Nio chief executive William Li acknowledged that the automaker&rsquo s delivery performance lagged behind the overall industry increase in the Chinese EV market.
 
He attributed this to the company&rsquo s slower response to supply and demand fluctuations.
 
Nevertheless, Nio continues to report healthy growth in the number of vehicles delivered.
 
The automaker said it delivered 15,815 vehicles in December 2022, an increase of 50.8 per cent year on year (yoy). This brought vehicles delivered in the fourth quarter of 2022 up 60 per cent to 40,052 units.
 
While these were record-high monthly and quarterly delivery figures, they were lower than expected.
 
The automaker had initially projected a delivery of 43,000 to 48,000 vehicles for the fourth quarter. It subsequently lowered its estimates, citing challenges in deliveries and production due to the Covid-19 pandemic as well as supply chain constraints.
 
The total number of vehicles delivered in 2022 increased 34 per cent to 122,486 units &ndash representing nearly half of the 289,556 vehicles that have rolled off Nio&rsquo s production line since its inception.
 
In comparison, Nio&rsquo s EV competitor Li Auto delivered 133,246 vehicles in 2022, some 47.2 per cent higher than the previous year. Li Auto also achieved a monthly delivery record of 21,233 vehicles in December, up 50.7 per cent yoy.
 
While Nio has been breaking its own records on the delivery front, the EV maker remains in the red.
 
Vehicle sales at the company amounted to US$1.7 billion in the third quarter of 2022, up 38.2 per cent yoy and 24.7 per cent quarter on quarter.
 
But its vehicle sales margin narrowed to 16.4 per cent in the third quarter, down from 16.7 per cent in the preceding quarter and 18 per cent from the corresponding quarter the year before. 
 
The year-on-year slide in Nio&rsquo s vehicle sales margin was mainly attributable to higher battery cost per unit, according to the company.
 
Li said in a recent Bloomberg interview that overall profit for the industry &ndash with the exception of the world&rsquo s most valuable EV maker, Tesla &ndash could be negative due to the &ldquo huge&rdquo spike in raw materials cost for batteries.
 
He warned of a challenging first half this year, as China stopped a more than decade-long subsidy for EV purchases even as the broader economic slowdown is likely to erode local demand in the world&rsquo s largest EV market.
 
In the same interview, Li said the Shanghai-based EV maker intends to break even in 2024. However, he did not elaborate on how Nio would achieve that milestone.
 
Net loss attributable to Nio&rsquo s ordinary shareholders widened by 44.9 per cent yoy to US$582.3 million in the third quarter of 2022, due to a 146.8 per cent jump in research and development expenses and a 48.6 per cent rise in selling, general and administrative expenses.
 
To make matters worse, market watchers say the risk of a price war could be building up.
 
Tesla has recently cut its prices in China &ndash for the second time in less than three months &ndash piling pressure on its Chinese competitors.
 
Awareness of its shortcomings and challenges could help Nio to better handle the continued headwinds. But it may now need to overhaul its operations and navigate the rising costs to stay abreast of the competition.
