ComfortDelGro's taxi fleet down to 15,600
No thanks to the rising popularity of Grab and Uber.
Singapore cabbies are feeling the heat from the intense competition from private car hire firms like Grab and Uber.
This is especially apparent with the shrinking size of ComfortDelGro's taxi fleet.
According to DBS Group Research, whilst the group is less impacted, its fleet size has also shrunk recently to 15,600 as of June this year from about 16,800 taxis in December last year.
"The group has implemented more flexible rental schemes to attract and retain drivers," analyst Andy Sim said.
The analyst added, "Whilst there could be near-term headwinds, we believe that private cars for hire and taxis would co-exist over the longer-term."

Very soon, people will be asking, if their fleet of taxis are assets or liabilities..

but their price also shoot up when one go work and off work. but to be fair its easier to have a car waiting for me then i chase after a cab on the road.

it depends who wants to offer to privatise it. SMRT got privatize. this is like the last transport operator, other than SBS which comfort is also under comfort. I hope they privatise to end my misery haha. this is like a cash cow.
who dont take bus/train, and comfort have operations overseas as well.

Grab give $4 *4times next week.
If any plan in mind to privatize it, they should start buying back shares isn't it?

Too much fear and nay sayers. It will survive but the share price might continue to dip due to those TA people who keeps shorting without looking at fundamentals.
Fundamentall nothing has changed. Today it might be losing money doesn' t mean it will lose the next quarter.

the usual trick is to press share price down and down ( to say $0.9) and buy back/  privatise to , say $1.10 < a ' premium'   of 20 cents > .

This company' s heydays are over. Now only their overseas businesses are doing well.
Comfort is slashing fares, so much spare capacity of taxis, weak prospects ahead. Uber and Grab will definitely be growing in the years ahead to taxi' s disadvantage. Any fool can see that.

To me it seems the mgmt is in paralysis on how to handle Grab & Uber. Most IT savy commuters are using these 2 at shopping centers.
Technically I think price will fall below $2.10 in the short term. Just keep on watching before you buy!
