I already told you my view points, could not be bordered to further answer if they are not the answer you are looking for.   Ask for SiFu   instead.

Anyway I scoped up some UOL shares at a low price below $6.30.   Gained some money immediately.

Haw Par is not component stock and is lowly traded.
UOL which Haw Par is a big shareholders normally has higher trading volumes.
Some fund managers can only trade component stocks.
I think ( not 100% sure ) Dr Wee recently only push up UOL shares only and not Haw Par shares.

Lots of stocks are trading at way below their book-values.
No one can accuratly predict future profits for next 5 years.
Too many variables so best thing to do is to diversify.

It still doesn' t answer the question why the share price is trailing so far behind the intrinsic value of the company. NAV is $16 !!

Haw Par, UOL, Singapore Land Group (UIC) and UOB are all related.

SLG group has S$1B stake in UOB.
UOL I think has controlling stake in SLG.
Dr Wee just gotten controlling stake (slightly more than 50%) of UOL ( his son mentioned during the last UOL AGM ) it would remain that way in the final years of Dr Wee.   How he splits his stakes of all companies he controls in future, no one knows.
Haw Par is a large shareholder of UOL.

For Haw Par to do well, UOL has to do well.   Today it just dipped to S$6.28 (target price is S$7.81).

Personally I feel that interest rates are high right now so some investors disposed of their holdings for better interest rates.   UOL, SLG and HP' s dividends are not attractive at all.   During the pandemic, HP' s dividend rates were higher than bank FD' s interest rates so obviously they were able to attract investors then.   Every week, price was going up slowly but surely.

Easy decision to make, sell and reinvest with higher dividend company or continue to keep and wait for price to go up.   The good thing is it is always profitable.   Unfortunately US Fed Reserve' s interest rates affect investors decisions.

Wheel of Fortune

My favourite TV host, Pat Sajak from Wheel of Fortune will be retiring in 2024. It is not absurd to be saying I had been watching him since I was a kid. Wheel of Fortune longest serving host is a mainstay of Channel 5 primetime. It is also the program which I enjoy watching with my son. I can&rsquo t imagine watching Wheel of Fortune without him. Pat Sajak is Wheel of Fortune, Wheel of Fortune is Pat Sajak. 😢

This stock is really a dead cock, can't understand why. Move up robustly for 1 week to 11, then drop like a brick to 9+ and stuck there, makes no sense to me.

Cousin UOL and Singapore Land Group also like that.

Stock prices should not deviate too far from what the company is worth in assets, Haw Par's share price is an anomaly.

Ftyeng      ( Date: 24-Jun-2023 06:38) Posted:

It puzzles me too.

There are a lot of fundalmentally sound SGX stocks that are undervalued by a lot.

They all have one common thing:   Dividend % too low (> 0% to 4.xx%).

With US Fed Reserve' s interest rates still going up until next year, it is hard to get these investors (fund managers and retail investors) that ditched SGX-listed stocks to park their money elsewhere to come back until they start receiving lower interest rates.   Then they may move their money back here.

Wolf Money(portfolio update for end May 2023)part 1 Haw Par Related

Meritocracy

The word &ldquo Meritocracy&rdquo came from a combine of Latin word for Merit meaning &ldquo Mereo&rdquo , &ldquo I earned&rdquo and cracy in Ancient Greek suffix &ldquo Kratia&rdquo mean &ldquo power or rule&rdquo . Combine it together it mean &ldquo I earned the right to rule&rdquo   The subject had been the focal point of the government recently. My commentary might not sit well for some but they are my general observation, no malice in my commentary.

Wolf Money(portfolio update for end May 2023)part 2

Commentary

The general mood of our local market was one of weakness in May due to on going uncertainty about US Congress ability to pass the bill for debt ceiling hike. A default on debt obligation by the US government is akin to an economic Maguire scoring an own goal coined by a Ghanaian MP.
