Do you think Penguin will do a major writedown after almost 50% loss in its investment in MarcoPolo Marine?

Need to make a hefty writedown on its $10m investment in Marco Polo Marine?

Penguin has a net cash of SGD 42 million, zero debt.
Net cash forms 50% of its market cap. And its business is booming. Last quarter it sold off a boat from its charter fleet netted SGD 20 million revenue (and SGD 5.5 million profit).
Where to find? Only in SGX.

thanks for the info.. much appreciated.. didnt notice this counter until its recent FY report and saw the huge discount off NAV & the huge cash stockpile.. marine sector has been hammered badly and i had not scrutinise this sector for quite some time since sentiment is not there for BB to push

Year 2019 will be a busy year for Penguin International. Q1 FY19 looks great with vessels delivery:
1.  " Penguin disclosed after Monday trading that the contract is for a heavy marine fire vessel, a heavy marine rescue vessel and a marine rescue vessel. It involves the design, construction and system maintenance of the three vessels.
Construction of the vessels is anticipated to commence in mid-2017, with delivery expected in 2019." https://www.businesstimes.com.sg/companies-markets/penguin-and-st-marine-win-award-for-three-rescue-vessels
2. Penguin Orders 16 enginei Units (Sep 17, 2018) - " Work is underway on the two shipbuilding projects, with the first four enginei installations completed and at least a further 12 units scheduled for supply and installation over the coming months."

Just the name itself already doesn' t sound promising...............

any opinion of this counter? it' s in the marine sector which is heavily shunned by investors.. but they have 18 cents of cash on hand, no debt, NAV near 70 cents and the current quarter results is strong (3 cents eps for this Q4).. dunno if they can sustain this strong quarter results for subsequent quarters..
Marching steadily towards 50 cents.
Excellent management, and able to quickly replenish the cash is the company. From the latest earnings release today:
The net cash of $13.5 million from operating activities was mostly generated by shipbuilding activity. The net cash of $10.8 million from investing activities arose mostly from disposal of vessels from the Group' s operating fleet.
The net cash of $7.0 million used in financing activities was due mainly to the repayment of term loans.
As a result of the above cash movements, the Group' s cash and cash equivalents increased to $35.0 million as at 30 September 2017, from $18.4 million as at 31 December 2016.
This company is a heck of a survivor in the crude oil meltdown over the last 4 years. Just imagine what would become of them should oil price stage a sustained rally for the next few years. I think this one is a long term KEEPER!

The big white candle has come !!! Power !!!
Penguin is flying. Heading to 50 cents!
