Chinese President Xi Jinping arrives in Singapore on Friday (Nov 6) for a 2-day state visit to mark 25 years of strong bilateral ties.

BIGGER BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES ON THE CARDS?

An observer told Channel NewsAsia Mr Xi' s trip could boost business opportunities and tourism for Singapore. East Asian Institute assistant director Lye Liang Fook noted that unlike the two previous G2G projects - Suzhou Industrial Park and Tianjin Eco-city - the third G2G project will focus on modern connectivity and modern services.

" It' s very significant because it fits well into the development priorities of both China and Singapore," Mr Lye said. &ldquo For China, this third government-to-government project fits into President Xi Jinping' s ' One Belt, One Road' initiative, as well as China' s emphasis to develop the western region. For Singapore, this ' One Belt, One Road' drive leverages Singapore' s strengths in areas such as information and communication technology, in services, in logistics and in aviation."

The exact location of the project has yet to be announced. " Whether this project is sited in Chongqing, Chengdu or Xi' an, the emphasis is on creating greater connectivity in the western part of China. So, it may be physically located at a core location, but from this core location, the emphasis is on building linkages between this core location and other localities," Mr Lye said.

Such tie-ups pave the way for greater cooperation in other areas, he added.

Chinese President Xi Jinping' s visit to Singapore brings opportunities, say banks

SINGAPORE: Chinese President Xi Jinping visits Vietnam and Singapore this week, after wrapping up trips to the United States and the United Kingdom.

His visit to the UK brought about an estimated US $ 46 billion in trade and investment deals. According to banks in Singapore, they are looking out for opportunities he will bring.

China is Singapore' s top trading partner, with bilateral trade reaching almost S $ 122 billion last year. Singapore is also the biggest investor in China, if Hong Kong is excluded.

Calling the visit a " significant milestone" , Bank of China (BoC) Singapore said issues likely to be on Mr Xi' s agenda include yuan internationalisation, the " One Belt, One Road" initiative, and a third government-to-government project, after the Suzhou Industrial Park, and the Tianjin Eco-city. The bank, which is marking its 80th year in Singapore, will also make a number of announcements to coincide with the President' s visit.

Ms Guo Ningning, BoC general manager and country head of the Singapore branch, said the bank will announce the launch of two global centres, which are the Bank of China Global Commodity Repo Centre, and the Bank of China Global Energy Commodity Finance Centre.

She added: " We believe ... BoC will continue to support the building up of Singapore as a financial centre and an offshore renminbi centre, and achieve much more development in the future, together with the Singapore government and customers."

Under Mr Xi' s administration, China has been encouraging its companies - both public and private -. To invest abroad A key initiative is the " One Belt, One Road" strategy which, according to BoC, covers about 65 countries west of China via the Silk Road Economic Belt, and southwards via the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road.

HSBC Head of Banking Advisory for Southeast Asia Alvin Lim, said: " They' ve been really after oil and gas, and mining.

" But, I think over the last three to five years, that trend has shifted, as the Chinese consumers move into higher income brackets. They are looking for brands, food safety and looking at moving into more value-added manufacturing, so that means buying technology and expertise. "

Mr Xi' s visit marks 25 years of diplomatic ties between Singapore and China. He last visited in 2010 when he was Vice President.

There are construction firms closing down even halfway on a project.
Putting money in is definitely a high risk.

Agree. MOU is not an agreement. So normally need more time to study before making it thru to become agreement. And often, failed before it materialized, so not only is long term but risky too.

Like I said, use CPF money so can wait until long long.

 

Every investment has risk and likewise for all deals declared by company, some got thru' some did not and some dropped halfway for whatever reasons. If the deal is sham, then SGX should investigate and make public. There is no right or wrong answer, but need to do homework if one is seriously thinking of putting money with what you belief.

 

ok ok.. u all keep talking good things about this company, i have nothing to say. I still feel VERY STRONGLY this is a junk counter. Buy at ur own risks...

We shd see.. I really think the deal is not going to materialise and share price will be adjusted down to rights offer price of 3.5 cents as with many other  penny stocks  that declared rights issue

But i better not keep  saying  negative things, if not i will kana scoldings / insults/ warnings/ scolded for being too busybody.

This reminds me of what happens to adventus when it was trading at 4+ cents and everyone saying good things and i issued warning and kana scoldings/insults/warnings etc.. bad experience.

So there is good chance they will look at this as from a strategic point of view.
