🚨 🚨 BREAKING: US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire with Iran for a period of two weeks, in which Iran will also open the Strait of Hormuz, according to his post on Truth Social.

Oil price start to drop!
US media reported Wednesday that a ceasefire with Iran is being negotiated by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, with US Vice President JD Vance serving as the US &ldquo interlocutor in the talks&rdquo - according to sources cited by CBS News.

The U.S. president wields far more power because the American system makes the president both head of state and head of government, while in Singapore the president is only head of state with limited custodial powers. In Singapore, real executive authority lies with the Prime Minister and Cabinet, whereas in the U.S. the president directly controls the executive branch.
🇺 🇸 U.S. President
- Role: Head of state and head of government.
- Executive authority: Directs the entire federal government, including military, foreign policy, and federal agencies.
- Legislative influence: Can veto bills, issue executive orders, and propose policies.
- Commander-in-chief: Has direct control over the armed forces.
- Checks & balances: Congress and courts limit power, but the office itself is inherently strong.
🇸 🇬 Singapore President
- Role: Head of state only symbolic and custodial.
- Executive authority: The Prime Minister and Cabinet run the government.
- Discretionary powers:
- Can veto measures that draw on Singapore&rsquo s past financial reserves.
- Can block or approve key public service appointments.
- Must consult the Council of Presidential Advisers (CPA) in many cases.
- Non-discretionary powers: Most actions must follow Cabinet advice.
- Political neutrality: Stands above party politics, representing unity rather than wielding executive power. Wikipedia The Istana Elections Department Singapore
Comparison Table
| Aspect | U.S. President | Singapore President |
|---|---|---|
| Head of State | ✅ | ✅ |
| Head of Government | ✅ | ❌ (Prime Minister) |
| Controls Cabinet | ✅ | ❌ |
| Military Commander | ✅ | ❌ |
| Veto Power | Broad (laws) | Narrow (reserves, appointments) |
| Political Role | Partisan leader | Non-partisan guardian |
| Symbolic Functions | ✅ | ✅ |
Why the Difference Exists
- System design: The U.S. follows a presidential system, concentrating executive power in one elected leader.
- Singapore&rsquo s model: A parliamentary system, where the Prime Minister leads government and the president acts as a safeguard against misuse of reserves or appointments.
- Historical context: Singapore introduced the elected presidency in 1991 to add a financial and institutional check, not to create a second power center.
👉 In short, the U.S. president is powerful because the system is designed that way, while Singapore deliberately limits presidential power to preserve parliamentary control and stability.

Iran showed no sign of accepting Donald Trump's ultimatum to open the Strait of Hormuz by the end of Tuesday (Apr 7), while the US president threatened that "a whole civilisation will die tonight" unless Tehran reached a last-minute deal.
Trump has given Iran until 8pm Eastern time (8am, Wednesday, Singapore time) to end its blockade of Gulf oil, or he will destroy every bridge and power plant in Iran. Iran says it would retaliate against US allies in the Gulf, whose desert cities would be uninhabitable without power or water.

TEHRAN: Israel struck Iran's largest petrochemical complex on Monday (Apr 6), as the Islamic Republic defied threats from US President Donald Trump to devastate civilian infrastructure if it does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Several explosions were heard at the South Pars Petrochemical complex in Assaluyeh, Iranian news agency Fars reported.
The site accounted for about 50 per cent of Iran's petrochemical production, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said.
Companies that provide electricity, water and oxygen to Assaluyeh were attacked, but the Pars petrochemical company has not been damaged, reported Tasnim, another local news agency.
It added that the electricity supply to all Assaluyeh petrochemicals units had been cut.
