Residents living in the affected and surrounding areas are encouraged to undergo screening at nearby health facilities if they experience prolonged cough symptoms or have a history of contact with tuberculosis patients.

TOKYO &ndash The Tokyo metropolitan government on  Jan 29  issued a new influenza advisory, after suspected outbreaks at schools and social welfare facilities exceeded 6,000 cases.

The metropolitan government had issued its first such advisory for this season in October, followed by a warning in November, both of which were later lifted.

This marks the first time in 17 years, since the 2008 to 2009 season, that a new advisory has been issued after a warning was lifted within the same flu season.

Nipah virus: Singapore airports to screen visitors from affected places no cases detected here

SINGAPORE &ndash   Temperature screening will be set up at airports in Singapore for flights arriving from

areas affected by the Nipah virus.

Surveillance of migrant workers arriving from South Asia will also be enhanced, said the Communicable Diseases Agency (CDA) on Jan 28, as it announced stepped-up measures to monitor the spread of the virus.

The agency added that no cases of the virus have been detected here.
