Actually out of curiousity, would like to ask what area (energy? shipping? , etc?) is Keppel Corp specialized in. Or is it similar to SembCorp?

keppel still ok strong bal sheet, smm might end up like hyflux, to them business is bussines unless someone in their family is or need to be put ceo there...
there is also a possible chance they can sell it to keppel n let keppel privatised it. end of the day, all speculation, what' s tru now, let the egm vote first. I think SMM is hoping for better offer since all the good sweet fall toward sci, maybe lower exercise price after xright.

Don?t think SCM will merge with Keppel , because Keppel is not 100% marine & oil . Unless Keppel demerger their marine unit like SCI and Temasek will merge both to save cost . Otherwise We will see another SCI story if SCM merge with Keppel .... ?Lower profit drag by poor result from marine ?
Temasek can announce What it going to do IF the demerger is successful. But What we see the demerger only benefited SCI by buying SSM at 0.20. No privatisation offer. Good time SSM is contributing to SCI. Bad time SSM burden is transferred to individual & cooperate investors.

Keppel and SMM is more into oil rigs? No doubt shipping will increase and i thought ship building companies like yzj will benefit more? Pls correct me if im wrong

I think even if Temasek wants to merge or do something to keppel and semb corp, they also cannot announce because it will push up the share prices of both companies which means temasek needs to spend more in terms of any offers.
Thats why Temasek is non committance :)
Is like u go shopping, u try to pretend u not buying and hope the seller will call u back and offer a lower price. So Temasek even if they have a master plan, they would not announce yet until what they intend to do is completed, aka demerger of SCI and buying 30% of Keppel... Perhaps then they will announce their master plan.

KCL & SCI used to be competitors, and I think they still are, regardless the economic situation now.

Also, Temasek already made it clear they will not make a GO for Sembmarine. The underlying reasons for Sembmarine huge losses is NOT because they are too small. It is just simply they do not have enough lucrative or profitable businesses.
Sembmarine should have announced their future business plans when asking money from shareholders.

If a company consist of pure marine of Keppel & SMM.. will u want to own shares of this company? Temasek needs to have some sweetener. When keppel took keppel land private, it knew that it needed keppel land profits to be fully consolidated as part of keppel corp to support its profits and make investors want to continue to stay invested in keppel corp.
My guess is that Temasek intends for keppel corp to own this marine segment fully. So keppel corp long term shareholders will need to subsidize this loss making business unit.

Both Semb marine and Keppel' s marine arm make huge impairment losses, it means now is even more urgent that keppel and semb marine merge in order to tackle the huge problem in the marine sector.. Temasek will be even more inclined to consolidate marine industries in singapore as it is an important sector of our economy. Temasek now has even more motivation to act to try to consolidate keppel marine arm and semb marine.
Maybe by drafting out marine arm from Keppel and merge with Sembmarine.. Now is even more important as both of them faces bleak future.
