Correction on both our posts. It' s 5.125%, not 5.25%.

pinkowl      ( Date: 09-Feb-2017 13:40) Posted:

Are you prepared to receive 5.25% every year till 2022?

Are you prepared to have your money there even after 2022 (should the company decide not to redeem), and continue to receive 6.125%?

If yes, then go ahead.

If you decide that you may not want to have your money stuck there for that long a period and want to redeem earlier, the risk is that bond prices may drop with interest rate hike.

It' s your choice. Hope this helps.

Yearly yield of 5.25% per annum. Worth buying now?

Honestly, not looking good. Yesterday EMAS announced Financial results to be postponed again (likely till April/May). Reason stated - " going concern" .

But of course, higher the risk, higher the reward (losses). Good luck to your friend.

Some non-cash write-down of intangible assets (tigerair trademark). Not as bad as that reflected in headlines. Maybe some will be scared off after reading headlines.

Yah...like no dignity. Felt like there' s a " talked-down" culture from Staff (office supervisor or trainer) to cabin crews. And a bully culture between seniors and newbies. Not great.

Pink, its the same everywhere. I remember during the World Cup   staff had to be interviewed when they returned from MC. A few bad hats spoiled it for everyone. Feel sad for the family. Hope the union step in and kickass.

Because those bonds you have mentioned that comes with high yield don' t have as strong financials as Starhub.

alexchew      ( Date: 07-Feb-2017 15:03) Posted:

Its intesting to see ppl talk about dividend yields that are very high? Just take a look at retail bonds, hyflux and oxley etc. Can get much higher yield rates with capital guaranteed upon maturity. Why take such risk on starhub that is on long term downtrend?

In a way, making money or not through property also kind of depended on when one is born. Those who reached marriageable age between 2002 to 2008 all laughing their way to the bank. Those reached their late 20s/early 30s from 2010 to 2015 would likely be forced to get units at the peak of property cycle.

Yes. property investment is another different investment class requiring a different set of analytic skills to property pick good properties for investment. Many factors come into play affecting the valuation of properties. And it is certainly a misconception to say that buying any properties sure will make money in the long run. Same as saying buying any stocks during a bull run sure will make money is also equally dangerous. Maybe if one has the luck to sell at higher than cost in a short term, than whether property or stocks still can make money. But, to sell a property is not that simple as selling shares. It takes a longer time and process to find buyers and complete the selling process for properties. So, if one buys wrong property at wrong time at wrong location at wrong financial investment calculations, with so many wrongs it can be disastrous. There are already sufficient news of property investors who lost money with their property investments.

Property investment as a whole, while being a lucrative investment class also has its pitfalls as well. As always, caveat emptor and due diligence certainly is needed to find truly good property deals.

earlybird14      ( Date: 07-Feb-2017 13:47) Posted:

Those bought property between 2012-2013 is destined to lose money( of course exclude those bought hdb at good location and high floor units). With the interest to be added every year, there is zero chance to earn money.

Even now? I still doubt so with the interest hiking environment and high vacancy rental rate which can drive rental fee further down.

Picking property is like picking stock, location and timing

Yes. What was reported is accurate based on my understanding.

Tough being a cabin crew. Not sure if other airlines are better in treating their staff.

I think the nature and scale of business is different. It takes longer for ezra's customers to come back with oil's surge. Whereas it won't be difficult for surge in commodity price to translate into enhanced profit margin for noble. Also, one is a fortune 500 company sponsored by sovereign fund, the other is relatively small.

Still, anything is possible. So can't write off anything. But I choose to believe the worse is over for noble.

You mean Chiyoda screwed up? How embarassing esp in a Japan/Korean cultural setting?

Heads will roll for sure. People involved will sink into depression because they are known to take pride in what they do and any setback could be a big blow to them.

pool100      ( Date: 03-Feb-2017 18:47) Posted:

Heard they screwed up the due diligence. Mistook losses in USD for Yen.

Apparently this is quite an embarrassment for Chiyoda corporation/NYK and word on the ground is that the top management is horrendously shocked at the mess they are in, esp after they had to make such huge impairments to their financials.

pinkowl      ( Date: 03-Feb-2017 18:34) Posted:

Same here. I wondered why Chiyoda wanted a stake in it. Sugar talk?
