Historically Starhub will announce EX date in March and gives out the dividend in April. So u need to decide if u want to play dividend. May go up near announcement or after announcement date but may drop more after EX-date. So be careful and do your calculated risk.

The StarHub price of 2.75 today, the investors are entitle to receive the dividend of 5 cents for the Q4/2016. The forecast dividend of 16 cents is for the FY 2017, the yield is about 5.9% after take into consideration of 5 cents dividend for Q4/16.  2.73 providing strong support with the oversold in stochastic. |

Whether Starhub will rise/ fall depends on how one view, but is not determined by others  I will go for long-term, while others may go for short-term. How one view a stock, will generally be how they played out. There are already a lot smart people in the market, i do not need to add one more :) Fisherman catches fish, sitting at a lake. For Smart People- You cannot tell them they are very smart/ not smart at all. There are a lot of Smart People in the market, so i will only use a viewing attitude. Therefore, the price is not relevant :)

2.73 to 2.76 level has provides strong support and also in oversold condition in stochastic. Hopefully tomorrow able to rebound.  |

For property - those who bought freehold at good locations and low prices will make money in the longer term if have holding power. Many owners ifnauch are now withdrawing properties from sale I believe.

Because those bonds you have mentioned that comes with high yield don' t have as strong financials as Starhub.

Its intesting to see ppl talk about dividend yields that are very high? Just take a look at retail bonds, hyflux and oxley etc. Can get much higher yield rates with capital guaranteed upon maturity. Why take such risk on starhub that is on long term downtrend?

In a way, making money or not through property also kind of depended on when one is born. Those who reached marriageable age between 2002 to 2008 all laughing their way to the bank. Those reached their late 20s/early 30s from 2010 to 2015 would likely be forced to get units at the peak of property cycle.

Yes. property investment is another different investment class requiring a different set of analytic skills to property pick good properties for investment. Many factors come into play affecting the valuation of properties. And it is certainly a misconception to say that buying any properties sure will make money in the long run. Same as saying buying any stocks during a bull run sure will make money is also equally dangerous. Maybe if one has the luck to sell at higher than cost in a short term, than whether property or stocks still can make money. But, to sell a property is not that simple as selling shares. It takes a longer time and process to find buyers and complete the selling process for properties. So, if one buys wrong property at wrong time at wrong location at wrong financial investment calculations, with so many wrongs it can be disastrous. There are already sufficient news of property investors who lost money with their property investments. Property investment as a whole, while being a lucrative investment class also has its pitfalls as well. As always, caveat emptor and due diligence certainly is needed to find truly good property deals.

Those bought property between 2012-2013 is destined to lose money( of course exclude those bought hdb at good location and high floor units). With the interest to be added every year, there is zero chance to earn money.
Even now? I still doubt so with the interest hiking environment and high vacancy rental rate which can drive rental fee further down. Picking property is like picking stock, location and timing.

its wrong concept to assume a defensive stock will always be defensive. But people' s mindset are hard to change. Same like property, they always believe that if i buy today, i will have capital gain when i sell it. This is no longer the truth for the next 20 years for singapore. Property likely to be stagnant or ppl realised that it is similar to a car, with an expiry. With more hdb coming past 30 to 40 years age, it will be a question for the govt to address if it is an asset or liability. If you use it for income generation for rental, you are safe to a certain extent. But if you buy a 35 year old flat today for occupancy, and sell it 30 years later, i am quite sure you will lose money.
