I agree. If SMRT can win the bid, it is potentially a lucrative revenue stream. With Singapore gearing towards a smart nation, and with more people increasing their mobile expenses, I don' t see how such investment by SMRT would be bad. All 3 telco companies have high share prices, and on increasing price trend.

i think it is to open up another revenue stream, and that' s the main aim, might not be what it' s main core of transport business, but it is still a revenue stream and it' s a partnership so isn' t it like  leveraging advantage

Agree. Currently, it' s still uncertain if they will win. The risk is there....it' s gonna be speculative. If they do win, I don' t think the price will be at current level though.

Agree

News only, somemore quite speculative at its best.

My reading is simply that SMRT got spare money, anyways earning much already. Not much to look at fundamentals wise, purely a technical trade at this moment in time. How market reacts to the news, is upto the market.

There are too many clauses already e.g. should the deal go ahead, should they want to opt in etc etc. Not worth reading deeper yet.

Whether SBS Transit or SMRT, they better respect that their original profit base is from the poor commuters whom they squeeze n squeeze for higher n higher fares so that they maintain profitability.  Don' t they go and invest in other areas that is not their core business n maybe make mistakes n lose all the money.  Then come back to commuters cry father cry mother all over again.

Err....I don' t like its name, sorry. Superficial I know. :P

SMRT may be good for medium term investor who' s willing to take a bet or day trader who wants to take advantage of the euphoria.

I find My Republic have a better chance of getting the 4th licence.Anyway spectrum auctions are expected to be held later this year or 1Q16.Still got some time away.Dont get overly excited and price can drop back after the euphoria.

All the more so they should diversify. :) Anyway, don' t think they are managing the telco biz. May be tapping on their media presence and reach.

SMRT works with OMG to bid for S' pore' s 4th telco

http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/business/smrt-and-omg-team-up-to/1786138.html

- Hope it wins! 50% chance based on what the reports say. Good that it has strong advisors on board.

" In preparation for the bid, OMG said it has appointed an advisory board, which includes former Foreign Affairs Minister George Yeo, former Commissioner of the Singapore Police Force Khoo Boon Hui, as well as former deputy CEO of the Media Development Authority Michael Yap."
