Singapore Airlines Records Strong Growth in April 2024
Singapore Airlines Ltd. has reported an overall increase in April 2024, with a 14.3% rise in available seat kilometers
and a 12.9% increase in revenue passenger kilometers,indicating a demand growth.
Passenger numbers grew significantly by 20.3%, although there was a slight decrease in passenger load factor by 1.1 percentage points.
The cargo division saw an impressive performance with cargo load factor improving by 7.9 percentage points, driven by a 29.1% jump in cargo and mail carried.

The definition of PE ratio is Price to earnings. We know this.

So people are paying about 10 times the earnings last year for the SIA stock now.

What I am doing is to use the price to earnings ratio to estimate what is the expected rate of growth of the company.

Generally, if the price to earnings ratio is high, that means people are willing to pay more for the company because they expect it to grow at a faster rate than the one with a lower PE.

So I used this general rule to estimate the rate of growth of SIA using the PE ratio. It is not entirely accurate and has its limits.

If one is not comfortable using this estimation, one can use another way to estimate the growth of the company. Like historical growth rates etc.

In conclusion, I estimate that SIA's growth rate is closer to 10% based on current PE. This may be far off, but that is only my estimate. Others can estimate differently using their different approaches.

Happy investing in SIA. I think it is a safe stock to be invested over the long term. I was once SIA investor.

I don' t think you can use 15X P/E to find the market price of SIA.
If it trades around 10X, that should be the industry average nowadays.
15X P/E implies an expected earnings growth rate of 15%. That is actually quite hard to achieve.

Let me share a true story.

For those who remember SIA at 10-20 dollars. This story is for you.
There was a time SIA was doing so well and earning fat profits. Other major airlines like QATAR, Emirates, etc came into the market.
SIA profits became not so good.
I bought and sold SIA with a 10% loss in capital after holding SIA several years. The price had hit my 10% risk tolerance and was sold. It protected me from 30-40% losses a month or two later due to COVID19. This is a true story.
I never bought SIA again.
So, if you bought, respect!
