Some bonds can be quite illiquid. So liquidity risks. You also buy in > =100K lot sizes. Interest rate risks, as well as the usual market risks as they can be traded on a secondary market. Bonds are most sensitive to interest rates and prices move conversely to it. The year 2022 saw one of the worse ever returns for bonds because of interest rates' rapid rise. The years 2008-09 saw the most defaults in bonds and many junk ones were written off. Deal with utmost care with bondholders. They are a specialised lot. Hard to earn from them. Many institutional fixed income managers have Ph.Ds. Even they get it wrong sometimes. It is a complex market that includes convertibles, synthetics and fake bonds (securities marketted as ' bonds' but are totally not) Trade with sharks and spears

Default and FX risks. But if we are willing to take equity market risks, bond risk should be palatable. But go for quality bonds. Junk is junk. Trade with the smartest but DYODD

Exactly. I did not want to take FX risk. Neither do I trust US Govt.

Bro ... the bond market is bigger than the stock market. The smartest people work in the bond market and it drives the stock market, never the other way round.

How high can T-bill returns reach? Depends on borrowing costs. Risk is default risk linked to credit rating of the issuer. If Singapore Government, its near zero risk of default. If Argentine Government T-bills, 50% default rate.  Buy at your own country' s risk

Not in Singapore, at least. But in the US, it is bread and butter for many. SG should introduce inflation protected securities like those in the US called TIPS (Treasury Inflation protected securities) I' ve been waiting for these investments vehicles that peg the rate of return benchmarked to an index measuring inflation. But I have waited in vain

Honestly, T-bills is good for passive income IF you have extra money. 1)What i did was, I put in $100K on 5th October. On 12 October after 5pm,(Auction date) i received $21,544 from my bank account. Means  only $80K kena( $20K return back including $1,544 as interest for 6 months). 3.87%. I invested $40K on 19 Oct. On  26 Oct after 5pm, i received $788 from my bank account. So i kena $40K and $788 is the interest for 6 months 3.95%. Total: $80K=$1,544 + $40K= $788= $2,332($388.60c per month interest) 2) UOB one account and UOB one card for the past few months i have been receiving about $420 per month interest. How it works? Must spent at least $500 on your credit cards  Asked your company to credit your salary into One Account. As long as minimum $1,600 enough. AND put in at least $100k into your One Account, dont touch the money and must maintain $100k to eligible for the 7.8% interest. remember once above $100k, your interest will be calculated as 0.05% so don`t put in more than $100K in your UOB one account. Conclusion My interest per month is $1,544(T-bill)+$788)T-bill)= $2,332 (for 6 months)+$420(One Account every month) Every month interest i get is $808!!   |
