Be careful of what you said about the business models.
The ride hailing business model is not sustainable and not workable.
You have 2 conflicting parties, the drivers and the riders, to satisfy. Drivers wants high fares, riders want low fares.
How to balance the 2?
Moreover, you may be aware that there are lots of "cheating" going on online platforms to bypass Grab's commission, you just go Google, you know. Not sure how much commissions Grab has lost due to these online "cheating".
CDG's model has no such problem.

The source of all evil is the high rental but low fares taxi drivers have to swallow. And the biggest devil is Zoom Bee's business model of čarning revenue from the drivers but not the passengers. Squeezing the drivers to make them work like dogs is unavoidable under such modus operandi.
You will behave the same way if you have to pay $125 if you need to rest for one day, and if you are not lucky or street-smart you would earn only $20 after working for 12 hours. This is a technology age, you cant expect the young to work like dogs and earn peanuts. Only the old folks have no choice. Hence it is not right to blame the drivers. Blame Zoom Bee, which is getting its retributions, desperately trying to copy-cat the PHV's model now.

If you think my numbers are fake, then please show us yours here.
You can ask any taxi driver whether if he runs his taxi for 12 hours whether he can get $180? On a very lucky day, he can. Please note that is for a very lucky day without stopping for breaks..most of the days he cannot smell that amount. $180÷12hr= $15/hr So to run the taxi for 8 hours, he gets $15×8=$125 Plus, another 2 to 3 hours of driving for fuel. HOW MANY MORE HOURS MUST A OMO DRIVER DRIVE TO MAKE A DECENT LIVING? Working hours : 12 hours (min) a day, 12x7days/week= 84 hours/week Any day-off will cost the driver $125 if he doesnt have a partner. If you take a taxi and your fare is $5, please assume that the driver earns only $2.5 after costs. How many omo drivers are there? If you go to the carpark and count how many are parked for hours, those are the omo taxis. Many nowadays because the nights are very quiet now with no airport, no drinking after 10.30pm, no KTV, no night clubs, no crowded CBD, no Geylang so not many want to drive night shift.

For once I have the same sentiment as you, I, too, pity the taxi drivers.
But all are not lost for them, with their skills, they can be bus drivers (in very high demand now, SBS and SMRT are relying on a Malaysians and Chinese Nationals) or they can be PHC drivers or some transport ambassadors.
Why become like that? It started when riders complaining taxi drivers hiding before midnight and choosing destinations, and CDG didn't even bother to address the problem (for example by increasing the midnight surcharge incrementally, like from 10 pm to 10.30 pm 20%, 10.30 pm to 11 pm 30%, like our ERP). This caused the government to legalise Grab and Uber to come in.
Well, to me, if Grab and Uber (now only Grab) come here and play by the rules and doesn't undercut the fare, I welcome competition. In fact you can see CDG taxi drivers don't choose fares anymore and CDG apps are getting better. CDG has learnt from the past mistakes in a hard way and evolve for the better.

You can plug in some magic numbers from your own world and make all Taxi Uncles look like total idiots, yet you cannot see that your own post is making yourself look like a clown

I pity the CDG taxi drivers.
In Oct last year, DPM Heng said he was looking into renewing the Self-Employed Persons' Relief which was due to expire by 31 Dec. And he said he will make the announcement by the year-end. Some uncles sitting at home shaking legs thought another $9000 was coming again. And they thought Phase 3 opening will make them huat big time. So some joined this NTUC taxi company to try their luck. Hence we saw Zoom Bee bragging 10,000 taxis (not 18,000) like before. Probably 10,000 is the registered number. 85% hired out rate is normal so it could be 8,500. What happened was : No more $9,000 but only $10 a day increase of rental subsidy per car ($600/month for Jan-Mar compared to $300/month in 2020). For Apr-Jun the subsidy will be reduced to $450/month). If no new subsidy is announced after Jun, CDG taxi rental will be restored to$125 from $105. What is the meaning of $125? That means on-the-road for 8 hours everyday just to earn that amount, plus another 3 hours to earn the fuel. And please drive 7 day a wrek and 365 days a yearor just pay the rental also can. Phase 3? One month since opening, the whole Singapore has quiet down. If you dont believe, please ask the drivers. I believe after Chinese New Year, it will even quieter! Hence I expect waves of keys-throwing in about 6 months when some taxi uncles just cant take it anymore. Theow the taxis back and shake legs at home is better. |

Yes yes yes! Buy the latest Honda Jazz and snatch the calls from CDG! 3.8l/100km. Let the CDG drivers pay $125 everyday and queue long long for their $5 fares at the shopping malls!
Huat Ahhhh!

Read carefully again,
- Demise of CDG Taxi Div, not taxis or taxi drivers - Higher rental ($30 more than other taxi companies because of its call booking)

u are wrong again.. u still don' t understand that Taxis cannot be fully replaced by PHVs. That also means u don' t know the importance of ' street hailing' that PHVs simply cannot provide. Rental rates are detwrmined by demand and supply, where there is demand for ' street hailing' , there will always be supply

Not demise of taxi or taxi drivers but demise of CDG's Taxi Division because there will be no more reasons for its taxi drivers to pay high rental and have to share out their bookings with the PH Drivers - if Seba is correct.

the fact that all of Conman' s arguments only revolve around the demise of Taxis and Taxi Uncles rather than this unprecedented pandemic already shows he is on the wrong side of things 😆 | ||||

From Credit Suisse:
Besides UOB, there are two other top picks by Credit Suisse ? Sats and ComfortDelGro (CDG) ? among the so-called recovery plays. Both are transportrelated companies that were hard hit by the collapse in usual traffic when the pandemic started. As for CDG, Wong believes the operator of buses, trains and taxis is well-poised as the ?clearest beneficiary? as commuter traffic recovers to near pre-Covid-19 levels. As of October 2020, CDG?s rail ridership was at 66% of pre-Covid-19 levels, and for taxis, the average mileage of a two-shift taxi in Singapore is similarly recovering and was at 86% of pre-Covid-19 levels. He believes continued improvements in rail ridership and further moderation in taxi rental rebates could translate to upside earnings surprise, given the effects of operating leverage. Furthermore, Wong notes that the company had already achieved profitability in 3QFY2020 with a profit after tax and minority interests (Patmi) of $21.7 million. Credit Suisse?s price target for CDG is $1.80. |
