All make sense and touch on fundamental aspects of the businesses. Not sure what is the impetus for SBST or VICOM to delist though since CD is single largest shareholder and consolidates their financials anyway. I had always perceive their bus business as an asset-light business model which has the operating leverage coming in as an operator. We may eventually all be wrong about the intrinsic value worth of CD as ultimately, it depends on what the market is willing to pay for it. I cant quite recall when was the last time the stock traded below book value (as it is now though)

1. Is the $700 net cash enough to pay back the investors in the situation CDG, VICOM and SBST were to delist? I am expecting SBST to delist eventually because I dont see why a public service contractor operating states' assets subsidised by public funds should be allowed to list.
2. Vicom : The zero growth policy means it is now fighting a zero sum war with other inspection centers. The only way it can increase profits is to increase fees (as it did). But as more and more vehicles going electric it will soon face pressure to drop fees. 3. SBST is a contractor. The business and all trains, rails, buses etc belongs to the States. How much the company is worth is dependent on the number of contracts it gwts from the gov.

Very high level SoTP - the company has > $700M net cash, 67% holdings in Vicom worth $425M and 74.4% holdings in SBST worth $600M. Market cap currently is $2.45B so basically the existing business is only valued at about $650M (thereabouts). The reality is that market will value its bottom when enough bargain hunters buy into the stock else it continues to slide. The company needs to give the market a reason to be excited about CD. With the new chair and being an ex banker, perhaps he can deliver some interesting accretive deals to shareholders?

DBS keeps ' buy' for ComfortDelGro but lowers TP to $1.62 amid slower recovery

DBS Group Research analysts Andy Sim and Chee Zheng Feng have lowered their target price on ComfortDelGro (CDG) C52 0.00% to $1.62 from $1.66 as the transport operator&rsquo s results for the 1QFY2023 ended March 31 reflected a slower than expected recovery. CDG&rsquo s net profit of $32.8 million for the quarter came in below Sim and Chee&rsquo s expectations.

The new target price is based on a blended valuation of -0.5 standard deviation (s.d.) of CDG&rsquo s five-year historical P/B and ev/ebitda at 1.2x and 5x respectively.

&ldquo Our upside hinges on roughly 40%-60% contribution from re-rating towards its five-year historical average and earnings recovery on easing restrictions and mobility improvement respectively,&rdquo the analysts write.

In addition to their lowered target price, Sim and Chee have also trimmed their earnings estimates for the FY2023/FY2024 by 6.5% and 7.9% respectively on lower revenues from their Australian, Chinese taxi and bus segments.

However, the analysts have kept their &ldquo buy&rdquo call as they say the land transport service company is &ldquo moving in the right direction&rdquo .

They also note some positives, as CDG earnings are &ldquo showing improvements on a q-o-q basis&rdquo , with patmi improving by 28.6% q-o-q from 4QFY2022.

&ldquo This was on the back of improvement in its public transport contribution, partially offset by seasonality in its taxi business,&rdquo they say.

CDG is one of the largest land transport operators globally with leading operations in Singapore, Australia and the UK. While the analysts say that operations were impacted during Covid-19, they expect its prospects to improve with reopening, particularly its point-to-point operations in Singapore and China.

CDG has also embarked on multiple initiatives to turn its business segments green, such as provision of electric vehicle charging and greening its buses and taxi fleet, which could potentially pave the way for inclusion in environmental, social and governance indices.

The analysts note that CDG has introduced booking commissions since May 2022 on its re-launched ride-hailing platform app, Zig. With full-reopening, they expect revenue growth of 4.5% mostly coming from taxi segments, despite higher margin pressure on the public transport segment due to higher electricity cost and labour cost pressures.

&ldquo This should be offset by recovery in taxi and other business segments, higher rail ridership as well as higher service fees on back of annual indexation of bus service contracts,&rdquo say Sim and Chee.

Meanwhile, the analysts highlight that investors may remain concerned about the sustainability of CDG&rsquo s taxi business due to significant fleet attrition, noting that share prices &ldquo are still flirting at its 15-year low&rdquo .

&ldquo Understandably, this may have worn many investors out especially with its underwhelming 4QFY2022 results. However, with the latest set of 1QFY2023 business updates, we see some light at the end of the tunnel with sequential improvement.&rdquo they say.

This is supported by China&rsquo s reopening, lower taxi rental rebates in Singapore, indexation for CDG&rsquo s public transportation operations and ceding inflation, all of which bode well for CDG, say the analysts.

Stocks on a long term, big, down trend against the major trend are so not for no reasons. You must find out what they are.
If it cannot rejuvenate, it will never be able to recover. It will stay low forever at around 20c and you can punt it up 2c, down 2c and you can make money too. With due respect to the late Mr Sim, Creative Technology was once upon a time at $60+. Together with DBS, they were the stock kings in Singapore.

What is the bottom in your view?
My personal, long term bottom is 20c. Reason : The advance of technology will slowly but surely cause the demand for bus/taxi transport to shrink to a very low level, rendering this high-cost** low- profit business to become unsistainable. **15,423 Vehicles, 12,744 employees 😱

To be honest if CD can maintain their dividends (supported by their FCF generation), it wont be long that we see the bottom. Downside vs upside risks - the only problem is we need CD to have a clear growth driver / catalyst to re-rate the stock | ||||

Which gives out dividend with 32.8M profit... Vs Loss of 250M and possibility to become profitable only in 4Q... it is obvious which co bring value to SHs :) Grab cuts Q1 loss to US$250 million, bumps up adjusted Ebitda guidance THU, MAY 18, 2023 - 07:54 PM UPDATED FRI, MAY 19, 2023 - 3:28 PM |
