Bro koala, No photoshop. No photo editing. No deepfake. And no AI. I was surprised how well the photos taken with my entry level $149 Oppo phone turned out. And I have no idea why my car looked so clean. For your info, I do NOT wash my car. I leave it to the rain to wash my car. And we do get quite a lot of rain in the west in Spore. It is normal to find scratches and dents on our cars. Mine has lots of them. But they dont show up in the photo. If you see my car up close, it does not look as good as in the photos.  But those photos - they make my car look like the paintwork is almost new. It isn' t.  |

Bro Bear gave up his car some time back. Today, I gave up mine. Up next I think is Bro sanvan' s turn. Then over the next few years, others here will also see their COEs running out and will have the same dilemma as those before them. So I think we have enough members to start a " Dont Be Sad About Losing Your Car Support Group" ler.  ![]()   |

There is something I have noticed about my car number and 4D. During the time of my ownership, the number was not drawn. For those cars where the number was drawn, it was when I was no longer driving it. So you may well be right. Anyway, I did intend to buy my car number for this coming Wed draw. I am not the type to faithfully follow a number for years. I know some people do that. For me, I will just buy once and whatever will be will be. Buy once is generally a good idea. It helps to cut your loss. People who have a habit of following their number faithfully - therein lies the danger of being stuck. When you follow a number for a few months, by then, you would have spent quite a lot if you buy a lot. And the problem with following a number for too long is you become a slave to it. Why ? The day when you tell yourself to cut loss and stop following, another part of you will say " What if you early dont stop late dont stop Phin Phin now then you stop and the number open 1st prize in the next Draw ? Then you scared leow. Dare not stop. End up becoming a slave to it. End up keep buying. Teok boh ? Wa Cong Ah Nee Khwan Wu Lee Yu boh ? Lu Nung Cong lah...Teok boh?

I videoed the process of the guy driving my car up the tow lorry and taking her away. I sent the video to wifey. She said.... " So emo ....watching the video of them taking away our baby" . I replied... " Can you imagine if Sylphy is not only a car but also a living thing which has a pumping heart and feelings and emotions. In which case we wouldnt let her go. We will treat her as one of us, as family, and we wouldnt be able to let her go. If she is a living thing, its not about money anymore. Its about doing whatever it takes to keep the family together. I cannot imagine standing there and letting them tow away a sobbing and heartbroken Sylphy if she is a living thing." |

Technology does really make life easier. Went online to de-register my car. Login with Singpass. It took only minutes. To submit deregistration, had to key in OTP sent to my phone. Once done, I received a CONFIRMATION in soft copy format as well as by SMS informing that my car has been deregistered. I believe the rebate will be sent to me by cheque in the mail.  This is what technology can do for us. We can deregister our vehicles in the comfort of our homes. 40 years ago, we will have to surrender our NRIC to the buyer of our car to enable him to deregister our car at ROV or Registry of Vehicles. Which means we have to entrust the buyer with our physical NRIC. Which is uncomfortable. The alternative is to make the trip to ROV (at Sin Ming Rd) with the buyer and be present for the deregistration. Likewise, in the past, to apply for season parking or to terminate it, I had to go to the HDB Branch office during working hours.    Not anymore. Today, we can do it online at the HDB website. Next time, how many years from now I dunno. Probably not in my lifetime. But next time personal transportation may come in the form of a one-man-drone transporter or people move around in an ironman-like suit. It is like having a motorcycle but instead of riding on it, you wear it and instead of on the road, you fly. Too far fetched ? I dun think so. Its just a matter of time. 200 years  ago when people moved around by riding on horses or in horse-drawn carriages, if someone from their time had said 200 years later, people will be moving around in machines. It will be like having your own train but smaller. Would people have responded by saying " That' s the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard" ? Probably.  |

Sis halle, Ya, had to " break off ties" and end my relationship with this Sway Yee becoz to keep her for another 10 yrs, I must pay a dowry of $92,525 to her father which is Ah Kong. Plus lose $5481 being PARF and salvage value. So total loss becomes $103,006 becoz I have to spend around 5k to fix her if I want to keep her for another 10 yrs.  I rather switch to BMW and keep that $103,006 to both invest for dividends cum trade to make GRAB money. No car also got no car good. In the past becoz I drive, I will avoid places like Orchard Road and MBS. Why ar ? Their hourly parking rates are CUT THROAT. Park there for say 3 hours... the parking charges can buy a Zichar meal for 2 pax. And elsewhere, parking charges are by the hour. Even if you cross the next hour by just 1 second, you pay the parking rate for a full hour. As a result, I always had to jagar my watch and hush hush my family to avoid missing the hour by seconds or minutes. Not having to bother about parking charges from now on is freedom. It means I can go anywhere including Orchard Road and MBS or RWS.  I also experienced a mindset shift. Over the last 2 years, I had told myself that if I strike TOTO, I will buy a new car. Sure buy. No IFs and no BUTs. But I had a mindset shift. So not anymore. If I strike TOTO, I wont buy a new car. I wont. At least not immediately and probably not for another year. What I will do is GRAB around instead. If I strike TOTO and have the resources to buy and maintain a new car, I will lagi more have the resources to GRAB whenever I like. That way, I can enjoy the freedom of moving around with ease but at the same time not be burdened by car ownership-related and driving-related issues and worries. Not driving means I dont have to worry about the engine not starting due to a flat battery or some other cause. Or about finding a parking lot. Or about steep parking charges. Or about a flat tyre. Or a sudden breakdown and being stranded in the middle of nowhere.  I want to enjoy convenient private transportation but without the burden of car ownership and driving. So GRAB around is what I will do for a change. Until I feel like driving again. But I think I will like the convenience so much that I will probably not go back to car ownership. That' s what I feel now. My father-in-law is wealthy. He can buy a Mercedez 280 with cash if he wants to. He gave up driving around 15 years ago due to health reasons. Driving makes him very agitated. His agitation comes from the actions of other drivers. So he decided to give up driving. For more than 15 years now, he moves around by bus and MRT. Sometimes by taxi. But 95% of the time by bus and MRT. Imagine that - a man who can buy a car with cash anytime but chooses not to do so. He has gotten so used to BMW that he will be the 1st person to champion the statement that in Singapore, you really dont need a car. Which is why I believe I probably will not buy a car again. Even if I can afford  it. I have taken public transport for more than 20 yrs before I bought my first car. So I know too that it is all a question of getting used to it. And once I get used to it, the thought of owing a car and doing my own driving will feel somewhat stressful. Becoz I too know what it means to own a car. Sudden breakdowns and getting stranded, hefty parking charges, maintenance costs, etc. Do I want all that again? ![]() |

Bro Bear, PARF Value is $5215. If deregistered today, COE Rebate is $16.00. Scrap value offered by LTA-approved scrap yard was $250.00. So total I will get back is $5481.00. If you buy my car, I will sell it to you at $5481.00. But the PQP to renew the COE this month is $92,525. So COE + Purchase Price is $98,006.00 But Bro Bear, if you buy this car, you will have to set aside another $5k to fix some issues to make this car more enjoyable to drive. So total cost will be $103,006. Your depreciation will be $10,300.60 per year. Compared to $15k to $18k per year for a similar new car.  ![]() Looking at the above, those who bo pian had to either give up their car or renew their COE in Dec 2024 and pay $98,582 to renew their COE..... paid $6k more than those who had 3 months more to TONG until Mar 2025 to renew their COE. But that' s the way it is. Who knows ? Those who still have 9 months more to go may see the PQP dropping to the 60k range and save 32k as a result. And if a recession comes in 2026, COE premiums for CAT A can fall to the 20k to 30k range also. And if so, a new car in the under 1600 cc class can cost $88k to 100k.

Yes,  she is gone. Taken away at 9.25am this morning. I said goodbye to her.  All I have now are fond memories of all the things we did with her over the last 10 years when it mattered a lot more. Compare not having her over the last 10 years with only from today I can have her for the next 10 years, I will still choose the former. Becoz the last 10 years mattered a lot a lot more.  Farewell Sylphy. Farewell my friend. . ![]()
