x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	SINGAPORE - An SMRT train was struck by lightning during a thunderstorm today afternoon (May 11), causing train service from Yishun to Yio Chu Kang stations on the North-South Line to be  disrupted for over 40 minutes. x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	For me, I hold dearly to the maxim that so long as u are a monopoly, endowed the position to sell a specific public good, that goal overrides the profit-maximising goal.  Every listed coy has the profit-maximising goal.  But the reality is, in a competitive environment, can it be achieved year in, year out?  Obviously not.  So, to  be endowed  that god-sent position for SMRT, its public responsibilities are inalienably paramount.  For me, there' s no other  way. nqing87      ( Date: 29-Apr-2016 09:00) Posted: as long as smrt is a listed company, they need to be profit oriented to account to shareholders.. their primary role is to provide the best railway service to commuters, but since they are listed company, their attention has to be diverted & spend time & resources to find means of increasing profits.. shareholders benefit, but not the commuters.. the same can be said to our sgx.. these regulatory bodies & important amenities/service providers shouldnt be listed in first place.. it' s just like having PUB, singapore power, LTA to get listed, which is senseless..

But seems like we pay top management good salary also without any problem solve too.) Too busy buiding shopping centers but not doing any maintenance.

I'm seeing this as a deep-set problem whereby change in mgmt or ministers wouldn't be able to help. I'm losing faith in Smrt as a share that can be held for long term. It's sad as it's supposed to be a monopoly and defensive stock as long as rail network is concerned. x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	The negligence  is unspeakably  tragic.  It' s two lives lost at a tender working age n so soon into their new jobs too.  Such pain is really unimaginable n unbearable.  Winning litigations is one thing, trying to make sure it never repeats must be the utmost priority.  It' s really the greatest responsibility, in my view, of any employer employing people in innately dangerous jobs to take every precaution possibly preemptable to avoid any mishap, n this must to my mind include repeated reminders about standing safety instructions  every time  an employee, or a team, is assigned a potentially dangerous task or series of tasks.  The safety manual at SMRT was probably not sufficiently rigourous.  Unforgiveably, it has again to take the loss of human lives for us all to learn to do things better.  sun233      ( Date: 29-Apr-2016 07:53) Posted: News reported that the families of the two staff can sue SMRT.
