Unless they are very confident, else I believe they need to provide provision for legal cost and settlement for prudent accounting. And yes, provision is considered as expense and brings profit down. But if eventually it does not incur this expense, then it can write back.

Based on the trend of lower utilisation, lower charter rate, POSH likely see a drop in revenue and a higher gross losses compare to Q3. Now the big ticket item will be the impairment of goodwill under PSA Marine of US$168mil and carrying value of vessels. Assuming a 10% impariment on vessels, this gives another US$130mil. So just Q4 alone, om impairment we can be looking at US$300mil being written off the face of its book. POSH can come and test 20cts in no time. The amount of veseel impairment revealed will be useful info for guaging impairment of other listed OSV shipowners. |
