This one not big contracts lah.  Recent contracts  mostly small, small only.  So, for me, I' m not hoping for a miracle or an immediate panacea.  What is significant for me is the proactive steps it is taking to diversify n, hopefully,  minimise losses, or better still turn around if it can, n reduce debt  even in these challenging times.  Developing new businesses, building new bridges,  pushing its  footprints of expertise more extensively, all these with the blessings of a renowned ah gong, are what is setting Vard apart in my view.  The recent announcement abt its involvement with the US Coast Guard project is, on Vard' s part, more of a sale of intellectual property rights.  But if well executed, this cld hopefully not only open a lot more doors of opportunity for it, but galvanise its position as a gremium global marine player too.  For me, the hope is that when the OnG n global economy improve (let' s  set a target of three yrs), Vard will be another Osim.  This is why I am accummulating at current (n, if possible, lower) px.  DYODD as always.

The value for the previous design contract was not mentioned, but given the magnitude of the contract won by the shipbuilder, it does not seem to be little.  |

Checking out Vard recent announcements. Contract wins piling up since 2nd qtr. and likely to be a record year for them in term of values and no of vessels. Potential bright, future earnings and profits look rosy. Trading 15.5c at NTA 49c is jus 0.32x. GSS 68% discounts. Please DYODD. Good luck.

Brother, that day, I sold 15.1.  Broke one of my own rules.  Didn' t check SGX website so wasn' t aware  of the big US-related contract (which I believe cld turn out to be a big thing for them in a few yrs if executed well).  Next day, rush to buy back.  Luckily chng kay was merciful - gave me back at 14.9 so, no loss win .....

Don' t kanchiong.   Look out for these signs: - any contract cancellation by end of Sep.   If none, no provision need to hantan their EBITA.   - judge if the restructuring cost will be lesser than Q2 after the inital temp lay-off of BREVIK yard. - Order book building up again after hitting a low in Q1 with new contracts all non-OSV. - quality of indebtedness.   It is worse than Nam Cheong in qunatity but better in quality.   Why?   NC build without contract backing.   VARD building all got contracts.   Loan are for construction work.   So see how many vessels they deliver in Q3 and how their construction loan pend out. - mgmt is proactive in managing cost.   Closed loss-making Niteiro yard is a big step forward.   Temp layoff in BREVIK should further reduce cost for the next few periods. - mgmt is proactive in getting non-OSV contracts with helps of parents.   Good thing is they are not getting into tanker, cargo which are oversupply as well. Hope (yes I said hope kills before!) to see better Q3 in Nov.   If all goes well, might go near or even hit above 20cts. DYDD   |

What ever you do the Norwaigeans cannot be cheap and cannot make money in the depressed market. These guys can only survive in bull market. There is only one way for Norwaigeans is to head south who have priced themselves out from the world game with normal service engineers asking for one week on and 2 weeks off like in the North sea rigs. This is not sustainable by any standards. Atleast 3 yards in Norway must be closed including Brevik to survive and increase in Eastern Europe and Vietnam. |

VARD SECURES CONTRACT FOR TWO MORE MODULE CARRIER VESSELS
FOR TOPAZ ENERGY AND MARINE Singapore, 22 September 2016 ? Vard Holdings Limited (?VARD?), one of the major global designers and shipbuilders of specialized vessels, is pleased to announce that it has secured a contract for the design and construction of two additional Module Carrier Vessels for Topaz Energy and Marine (?Topaz?). The vessels, of VARD 9 21 design and measuring 123 by 16.5 meters, are sister ships of a series of 15 identical Module Carrier Vessels previously contracted by Topaz for delivery from VARD?s shipyards in Tulcea and Braila in Romania, and Vung Tau in Vietnam. They will be operated by Topaz through a consortium led by Blue Water Shipping. One of the additional vessels will be built at Vard Braila and one at Vard Vung Tau. Delivery of both vessels is scheduled in 2Q 2018. The aggregate contract price is close to USD 40 million.
