Playing the devil's advocate earlier...lol
Msian 4th tap is still important if it can be continued status quo as a buffer/ safety net.
Water needs will increase w growth of industries n population.
Unless Ah Gong is prepared to build more plants than forcasted needs w all the attendant overcapacity issues, whereas Mahathir's water is pay-per-draw, right? No roam, no charges.
Moreover, Anwar is known to be more Singapore-friendly, and when be takes over, things will be different.
Dulu lain, sekarang lain, masa hadapan pun lain.LOL

In other words, our projection (860mgd in 2060 ) can even be met  in 2 - 3 years time by adding  3 x70 mgd new desalinaion plants Our neighbour need to be  more farsighted:- 1. Everyday more than 150,000 johoreans cross the causeway to work in here 2. There are also a few hundred thousands (PR + work permits) of them stay and work here 3. We' re one of the biggest investor there 4. Most of the their agricultural and fishery products are sold to us daily ( other Asean, Thai, Indonesia and etc definitely wouldn' t buy from them) 5. Weekends visit by local across the causeway boost their retail and economy A prosperous SG is good to them.  Guess an old man that still carrying a old baggage will never understand                |

So in 2060, we only need 15% (129mgd)  raw water from our reservoirs &   Malaysia Dr M will be 134 years old then. ![]() ![]() Another 2 x 70 mgd plants (construction usually take 2 - 3 years) will be enough to completely replace the daily 15% raw water if need to.      |

PUB projection for 2060:-  Total projected consumption: 860mgd Newater : 55% Desalination : 30% Rest: 15% 5 desalintaion plant production volume in 2020  = 30 + 70 + 30 + 30 + 30 = 190mgd Thus 860 x0.3 -190 = 258- 190=  68mgd , guess should  need 2 x 30mgd  or 1 x 70mgd new desalination plants by 2060    |

1) That 30% figure from DesalPlant, does this figure include Tuasspring ? 2) With Marina REservoir being able to meet 10% of SG' s water needs, that' s 90% already from 30% (from Desal Plants) + 40% (from Newater Plants) and another 10% from the Marina Reservoir. Punggol and Serangoon Reservoirs should be able to provide another 10%, right ? So,... we' re only dependant on 10% of SG' s water needs from M. Give it a few more years,.. should be able to overcome this 10%,... no need to continuing buying till 2067,....

If so, 3 taps within our control can alr supply we Singaporeans with 80% of our water needs. So what is so difficult about the remaining 20%??? Just quickly resuscitate Hyflux and give them another 2 projects to do. And we are free of Mahathir' s nonsense. Let the rivers evaporate and dry up, we don' t give 2 hoots.

"Local catchment water, which relies on rainwater, is a pillar of Singapore's sustainable water supply. Since 2011, the water catchment area has been increased from half to two-thirds of Singapore?s land surface with the completion of the Marina, Punggol and Serangoon Reservoirs. The Marina Reservoir, the island's most urbanised catchment, can meet about 10 per cent of Singapore?s water needs."
