In the past NOL is regarded as the beacon of economy growth and indicator of global export growth. 3 years of stagnant growth testifies the truth of global economy, current economy growth is powered by QE3 once that is gone it is back to good old growth story. Biggest laggard can turned out to be biggest change in share price value not surprised to see ship jumped up very rapidly when US economy reached breakout velocity. Today result is kind of lame cos nol management already indicated result would be better than 2012, more important is forward guidance when the ship would return to sustainable profitability due to restructuring rather than hoping for freight rate to jump up a lot. Endure and preserve is Key to trading ship. By the way Singapore 4Q GDP gone from contraction of 2% to growth of 4% due to Dec export surge lol. Economy really is unpredictable. And during 2007, 2008 the development of only Beijing and Shanghai has resulted in a huge boom in shipping industry. (NOL grow from $1  to $4). Now I don't belief  they are satisfied with just 2 cities being develop.  As long as feds continue to taper, we will see a new ray of hope for the shipping industry.

China being the main consumer have not been importing anything for the last 5 years ever since fed starting printing money.   Only recently when fed tapering started that their import increased, signs of revival for the shipping industry. And during 2007, 2008 the development of only Beijing and Shanghai has resulted in a huge boom in shipping industry. (NOL grow from $1  to $4). Now I don't belief  they are satisfied with just 2 cities being develop.  As long as feds continue to taper, we will see a new ray of hope for the shipping industry.

Either way share is in rangebound. Comparing fleet size in 2Q and 3Q noticed that 8 charters ship are returned in 4Q, so might see operating cost go down further a bit. Best case scenario is flat result on 4Q and small profit for full year. 1Q14 might be better when the new ship came in to further cut down fuel cost, NOL like to deploy new ships in the new year. By the way US debt ceiling clear and no further headwind seen for US economy minus the extreme cold winter this dec/jan. Endure and soon u see the light after 3 years of darkness and gloom.
