x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	More than 800m as at 31st Dec 2021 I suppose that should be considered as cash rich taking into consideration that a lot of listed companies on SGX did not even have a market cap exceeding 800m Taking on debt can also be viewed as a form of tax rebate or interest rebate on the loans I heard Not really sure how true it is, but to my understanding from what my colleagues shared with me at work, company tax rate is at 17% If a profitable company that is in a tax paying position borrow money, let' s say 1 million dollars at 3% The 30k loan interest is an expense which is tax deductible, meaning you pay 5.1k lesser in tax before of the loan In other words, your effective interest rate becomes 2.49% instead of 3% If the company can use the 1 million they borrowed to invest and get back returns higher than 2.49%, it means even more profit So a lot of companies actually do borrow money even if they have cash Btw, ST Engg debt is around 1.7bn but cash is only 800m plus Meaning they do need the debt anyway, but maybe not so much if they cut down on their cash reserves? But cutting down on cash reserves could also mean missed investment opportunities They could not make investments if they do not have the cash, and raising cash via bank loans etc takes time too Business opportunities could be gone by the time they manage to raise enough cash   john_ric      ( Date: 08-Oct-2022 09:30) Posted: I tot ste is cash rich.
