DBS Steady as she goes &bull 1Q14 PATMI slightly below expectations on slower orderbook drawdown EBIT margin held up at 11.1% q-o-q &bull Brazil yard on track south quay to be ready to take on integration work for first drillship in July &bull Expect sequential improvement in earnings &bull Maintain BUY and S$4.80 TP 4Q13 net profit beat expectations EBIT margin rebounded 0.3ppts y-o-y and 1.1ppts q-o-q to 11.1% EBIT margin held up at 11.1%. SMM' s recurring 1Q14 PATMI grew 3% y-o-y to S$122m, falling 6% short of our S$130m projection. This was attributable to the slower than expected orderbook drawdown and ramp up of shipping revenue, largely due to seasonality, and the recognition timing of projects. On a positive note, EBIT margin held up at 11.1% despite sequentially lower revenue. First drillship on track for delivery in 2Q15 despite slight deferment in sailing to Brazil due to World Cup. SMM now expects the arrival of its first drillship to Brazil yard in July instead of June as previously guided to avoid disruption from the World Cup. Work on the rig continues at the Singapore yard. The Brazil yard is on track. The floating crane will be shipped over from Singapore and fitted by early July. More importantly, management reassures that the delivery schedule of the drillship is unchanged. Expect sequential improvement. While 1Q14 recurring PATMI made up only 20%/19% of our and consensus&rsquo FY14 estimates, we are leaving our forecasts intact as 1Q is seasonally weaker. Furthermore, we expect higher rigbuilding and repair revenue in 2Q, with two more newbuild projects and several major repair projects hitting initial recognition. The higher revenue contribution from rigs using SMM&rsquo s proprietary Pacific Class design, shiprepair segment (from 25% to 30% of group revenue) and recognition of back-loaded profit from project completions in 2H14 should drive margin recovery this year. Hence, we maintain our BUY call and S$4.80 TP on SMM. SMM is a pure play in the offshore & marine sector with strong EPS CAGR of 15% in FY13-15F. |

Sembcorp Marine Q1 net profit rises 3.1% Singapore' s Sembcorp Marine Ltd, a builder of offshore drilling rigs, said on Friday its net profit for the first quarter gained 3.1 per cent from a year earlier on higher income from rig building and other projects. Sembcorp Marine recorded a net profit of S$122.5 million (US$97.81 million), the company said in a statement. Revenue for the quarter climbed 27.2 per cent from a year earlier to S$1.3 billion. Keppel Corp Ltd, Sembcorp Marine' s crosstown rival and the world' s top jackup rig builder, reported a 5 per cent fall in its first-quarter net profit. Sembcorp Marine shares was 0.3 per cent lower on Friday, down 8.3 per cent so far this year, while Keppel shares have fallen 5.3 per cent since the end of 2013, both lagging the 2.7 per cent gain in Singapore' s benchmark Straits Times Index. - Reuters |
