Seatrium awarded letter of intent for deepwater new-build production unit
The Kaskida project is a greenfield development about 402 km south-west of New Orleans
SEATRIUM : 5E2 -3.37% was awarded a letter of intent by BP Exploration & Production for a deepwater new-build production unit in the US Gulf of Mexico.
On Wednesday (Jun 5), the offshore and marine specialist said it is expected to carry out certain early engineering works on BP&rsquo s Kaskida floating production unit (FPU) project, pending a finalised definitive contract for engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning work.
This contract award will be subject to mutually agreed terms and conditions, management approval, and the final investment decision by BP, the group added.
The Kaskida project, a greenfield development, is located in the Keathley Canyon area of the Gulf of Mexico, about 402 km south-west of New Orleans.
&ldquo This award reflects our expertise and successful track record of delivering complex FPUs,&rdquo said William Gu, executive vice-president, oil and gas (international) of Seatrium.
The letter of intent is not expected to have any material impact on the company&rsquo s net tangible assets and earnings per share for the financial year ending Dec 31, 2024.

Seatrium commences share buybacks, paid $1.77 each for just over a million shares
Seatrium has commenced share buybacks on June 4, just over a month after it announced a $100 million programme to do so.
The company paid an average of just over $1.77 to buy back 1,058,000 shares.
According to Seatrium back in April 29, the repurchased shares will be held as treasury shares which will in turn be deployed for its existing employee share plans, be used to pay the share component of the directors&rsquo fees, or cancelled against the group&rsquo s share capital to increase shareholder returns.
" Taking into consideration Seatrium&rsquo s improved financial position as well as capital requirements for future growth plans, the share buyback programme provides for a systematic share purchase approach that signals the group&rsquo s commitment to further align its interest with shareholders," says Seatrium.
On May 27, the company announced the long-awaited contract for two FPSOs from regular customer Petrobras.
At $11 billion, the contract is bigger than the $8 to $9 billion some analysts were expecting.

Seatrium 1Q24 Business Update - DBS Research 2024-05-28: Bright Order Outlook Seatrium 1024 Business Update - Bright Order Outlook. We estimate Seatrium (SGX:5E2) generated -S$2bn revenue in 1Q24 (up 40-50% y-o-y similar to the pace of S2.2 bn/quarter on average in 2H23). Operational streamlining and financial cost reduction appear to be progressing well. Successful divested Batangas Yard in The Philippines at a gain, mitigating the US$68m interests payment for Akastor. There are no further contingent liabilities following the Akastor&rsquo s arbitration case. Management stresses building Seatrium' s earnings resilience and achieving > S$1 bn EBITDA consistently. Big Wins for Petrobras. Seatrium has recently won the highly anticipated Petrobras FPSO orders - P-84 and P-85, at 30% higher than expected contract value, totaled ~S$11 bn, incorporating more electrification and green features. This lifts the year-to-date wins to S$11.4 bn and orderbook to over S$25.8 billion (S$16.2 billion as of Feb-24), close to the peak orderbook of S$27.5 bn in the 2Q13. Robust Order Outlook Seatrium expects to finalize the contract for third high-voltage direct current (HVDC) electrical transmission system for TenneT, a leading European grid operator in June, adding S$1.6-1.8 bn to order book. There will be more to come as TenneT has ambitious plans to build 60GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030 (28GW awarded thus far) and 300 GW by 2050. According to Upstream, Petrobras could issue an invitation to tender in 2H24 to contract a FPSO to revitalize a pair of mature fields in the country&rsquo s Campos Basin. In addition, Seatrium continues to actively pursue projects in particularly O& G production platforms, as well as HVDC and Wind Turbine Installation Vessels (WTIV) in renewable space Share price pullback on MSCI a buying opportunity Seatrium shares fell -15% following news of MSCI deletion, before regaining some grounds on the Petrobras FPSO order wins. While further selling pressure next few days prior to effective MSCI removal on 31 May, might be inevitable, it is unwarranted in our view given the intact fundamentals. We believe the massive FPSO contracts marked the bottoming out of the stock, providing much-needed confidence booster. We maintain our confidence on Seatrium&rsquo s turnaround.
