x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	68 HOLDINGS Pte Ltd, a company owned by hotelier Ong Beng Seng and Wheelock Properties, is making a mandatory cash offer to buy Hotel Properties Limited (HPL) at S$3.50 a share. At S$3.50 a share, the offer price represents a 11.82 per cent premium to HPL' s last traded price on April 11, 2014. The offer follows 68 Holding' s agreement on Monday to buy a total of 213.98 million HPL shares, representing a 41.91 per cent stake at S$3.50 each. It will buy an 18.44 per cent stake from Ong Beng Seng (OBS), Reef Holdings Pte Ltd and Como Holdings Inc., which are companies controlled by OBS. Another 0.32 per cent will be bought from Christina Ong, Mr Ong' s spouse.

IF NOL announced they going to sell off non core assest APL terminal and APL logistic then follow by a big bang Temasek privatisation, u can also see explosive upward surge in a single day, slaughtering whoever had not covered their short position lol. These bail out deal  by parent companies are sending very strong signals to shortist to cover their position or be slaughtered like pig, oi oi oi lol. By the way they are not paying cheaply, they seem determined to make it a done deal in 1 single offer by pushing to the upper limit of the purchase price eliminating any possible rival bidder. Fear is in the air but not fear of a meltdown it more of getting caught shorting in the wrong counter. Lot of blood flows in Olam surprise buyout deal, most likely we would see muddy water going bankrupt in a few more months down the route as they publically announce they going to short down olam meaning very big short  position not yet covered. The Commerce Department said on Monday retail sales increased 1.1 per cent last month, the biggest rise since September 2012, as receipts rose in nearly all categories. Retail sales, which account for a third of consumer spending, had risen by a revised 0.7 per cent in February. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast retail sales, advancing 0.8 per cent last month after a previously reported 0.3 per cent gain in February.

The Chinese port handled 2.96m teu of box volumes in March, an improvement of 3.1% over 2.88m teu recorded in the same period of 2013, data from SIPG showed. Last month' s throughput also shot up 34.3% from 2.21m teu recorded in February this year. In the first three months of this year, Shanghai port posted a total throughput of 8.16m teu, up 4.5% compared to 7.81m teu seen in the corresponding period of 2013. In 2013, Shanghai retained its title as the world' s busiest container port with a throughput of 33.62m teu.

x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	Maersk Line increases import rates from Asia to Central America   By Michele Labrut  from   Panama   The Danish shipping company Maersk Line will implement a general increase on rates for imports from Asia to Mexico and Central America from May 15, in order to maintain a sustainable level, the company said.   Thus, the 20 ft containers will pay a fee of $700 and 40 ft containers will apply a fee of $1,400, both per unit, once they enter the terminal. Just a month ago, in March, the liner announced an increase of $200 per teu, starting April 15, with the 20 ft container paying $500 while the increase in feu was $400, to $1,000. These increases are part of a tariff adjustment programme that the company implemented since early this year.

The WTO previously had forecast that trade would expand by 4.5 per cent in 2014, up from an estimated rate of 2.1 per cent in 2013. So the latest forecast points to substantially more than a doubling of the growth achieved last year. Trade is a key measure of the health of the global economy which it both stimulates and reflects.

x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	Tbh, no point speculating everyday about the stock price. For this stock to move, you would need an industry wide catalyst. Base on pass showings, a rise in BDI isn't enough. There were cases where BDI shot up but NOL stock price remained stagnant. What this stock need currently, in my opinion, is good showings on its upcoming quarter results. At the same time, Better results from comparable peers is likely to uplift earnings outlook for the shippin industry in the near term. Until these catalysts are clear, I won't touch NOL. That doesn't mean this stock is a bad stock. The company is structurally trying to be cost efficient and that's a positive for investment. But, till the outlook is clear would I advice to enter.

Moreover, in the 3 Mar Issue of The EDGE, it quoted officials of NOL saying they are beginning to see promising pockets of demand in the market and the president of APL, Kenneth Glen as saying they have started to see stronger than anticipated volumes in all their major trade lanes (recently). 40% of their revenues is derived from Transpacific trade and of which 70% are based on contracs. So, the May 1 contract negotiation will be crucial for setting the freight rate while cost cutting will remain critical.
