5 August 2015 S-chips in demand as China rebounds

LOCAL shares almost clawed themselves out of the red yesterday, after positive news from China reversed the pessimism that had held sway for most of the day.

Investors were in a sour mood after factory gauges showed a weakening manufacturing sector in China, but hopes that the government will unleash further stimulus measures sparked some late bargain hunting.

It allowed the Straits Times Index, which had fallen as much as 17.32 points earlier in the day, to regain some ground and close down 1.75 points or 0.05 per cent at 3,191.04.

" This is a good time to bargain hunt if you believe the Chinese government is going to add further stimulus to support growth," remisier Alvin Yong said.

The Chinese central bank has room to cut interest rates further and China' s US$3.69 trillion (S$5 trillion) of foreign-exchange reserves and relatively low national government debt levels mean it has the ammunition for fiscal stimulus.

Chinese regulators now require short-sellers to wait one day before returning the borrowed shares, a move that will push out day traders and help stabilise the market, IG market strategist Bernard Aw said.

Back home, Noble Group continued to be the most actively traded counter as short-covering drove the stock up nearly 28 per cent or 13 cents to 60 cents, with 263.2 million shares traded.

" Traders are covering back shorts just in case the company surprises on the upside for its second-quarter earnings, and ahead of the SG50 long weekend.

" Many traders won' t hold positions over the long weekend because the Singapore market won' t be open for them to react to macro-economic news, or developments in other markets," Mr Yong said.

Positive sentiment from the rebound in Chinese equities also spilled over into S-chip plays, which dominated the most actively traded list.

Stratech Group jumped 14.5 per cent or 0.9 cent to 7.1 cents, with 108.6 million shares traded, while Chinese Global skyrocketed 38.7 per cent or 1.2 cents to 4.3 cents with 77.7 million shares traded.

Debao Property soared 54.5 per cent or 1.8 cents to 5.1 cents, with 72.1 million shares changing hands, and Qingmei surged 43.8 per cent or 0.7 cents or 2.3 cents, with 64.3 million shares traded.

After falling 12 per cent, or 30 cents since Thursday to a year low of $2.20 on Monday, Global Logistic Properties rebounded 6.8 per cent or 15 cents to $2.35, with 60.7 million shares changing hands.

" The stock rebounded after going ex-dividend on Monday. The stock attracted bargain hunting after dropping more than its dividend payout of 5.5 cents a share," Mr Yong said.

28 June 2015 Yamada Green terminates lease agreements with eucalyptus plantations

SINGAPORE (June 28): Yamada Green Resources says wholly owned subsidiary Zhangping Fengwang Agricultural Products Co. has terminated the lease agreements with eight separate village committees in relation to eucalyptus plantations.

In a Jun 26 SGX filing, Yamada said the production costs of the cultivation of shiitake mushrooms has been increasing for several years, especially with labour costs involved in production of synthetic logs.

This has led to decreasing profit margin in this business segment.

In view of this, the management is cutting the group&rsquo s reliance on the shiitake mushrooms business segment while expanding the moso bamboo trees and bamboo shoots business segment, which incurs lower labour costs.

Upon termination, company' s total eucalyptus plantations are expected to reduce from 39,735 mu to 38,334 mu.

An aggregate of RMB12.7 million ($2.8 million), which is the balance security deposit previously paid to the respective committees, will be also be refunded to Fengwang.

The terminations are not expected to have material impact on net tangible assets of the company for current fiscal year ending June 30, 2015.

Yamada Green last closed at 11 cents.

The edge magazine highlighted Yamada as a stock with momentum this week.

Looking at the PE reported in the magazine, it' s at 0.19x and p/BV is 0.31

Super valued gem I must say.

knee jerk reaction to the rights news past few days, but back up today..

i' m questioning the M& A acitivities, with China stock market at near 2007 peak levels, is it a right time to seek M& A when valuations are overstretched?

But luckily, held back my urge on this one, and didnt expect them to issue rights.

Bitten twice by these so-called S-chips stocks. Cannot not trust all these China-run business, 90% of them are con-men.

Yamada Green undertakes rights issue to raise $18.9 million

SINGAPORE (June 8): Yamada Green Resources, the grower and supplier of shiitake mushrooms and moso bamboo from Fujian province, China, is proposing to undertake a renounceable underwritten rights issue of 270.3 million new shares at 7 cents each to raise gross proceeds of $18.9 million.

Yamada Green was flagged at a stock with momentum today. The counter closed 0.3 cent higher at 12.5 cents with 988 million shares traded.

Shareholders will be entitled to buy one rights share for every two shares held.

Of the net proceeds of $18 million, $7.2 million will be used to pursue strategic investment and acquisition opportunities as and when they arise in the future while $10.8 million will be used for general corporate and working capital purposes.

The issue price of 7 cents is at a discount of about 43.5% to the volume-weighted average price of 12.4 cents per share during trading today.

The new shares represent 33.3% of the enlarged share capital of the company of 811 million issued shares.

The company has appointed UOB Kay Hian as the manager and underwriter of the rights issue.
