Thank you, Goldfinger, for sharing some of your stories and experiences with SIA staff. From time to time as you share, we are reminded of how fortunes can turn for anyone. But, every dog has its day.

This pilot may have been counting chickens before they were hatched. Some of these free flights may indeed be without cost to SIA simply because there are extra seats not taken up anyway.  | ||||

Another SQ pilot nearing retirement age in a Japanese language class I was in - told me matter of factly that he will get free flights for life, after he reached his retirement milestone.  Dunno true or false - but these are not good examples of how the company intends to stay afloat in the skies.

I got many stories of arrogant and proud SQ Pilots and Management staff to share. Unfortunately some of them are in the same social circle.  One SQ pilot who gets complimentary flight upgrades was telling us why we fly Economy class and like look down on us type.  Another wife of a SQ management staff gets free BizClass upgrades once a year - and likes to post onto Facebook all the pictures of her trip from the seats to the food etc.  Everytime she flies on the same trip with the hubby.  No wonder they are now in such terrible shape.  They need to cut away all such perks.  No where else do you see these type of perks - if you work in a Local Bank - does it mean your wife does not have to pay credit card charges? Crazy.

Nope - I was only a witness.  They were pushy and telling people off.  They think they are still kings and queens of the sky - they have not realised they are now grounded in the dirt.

Today - a Safe Distance Ambassador was telling people to stand properly.  I asked her if she was from SQ, and she said yes.  I told her her life must be very tough.  She glared and walked away.  So much arrogance, so much pride.  Another SIA Pilot Captain explodes on the court, when losing points in tennis.  No wonder their downfall now.  Just sack half of them, and SQ will be in much better shape.

I asked you to tell clearly at first place about permanent impairment loss i can' t make accounting sense of. But your response was rude! You maybe have not enough accounting knowledge. The loss also included an impairment charge of S$1.33 billion relating to the removal of 26 older generation aircraft and a S$127 million charge from the liquidation of NokScoot. Why you said there is permanent impairment loss - $1.3b? Why you said " forget about the reversal of the impairment" ? SIA said to retire several A380 only. Impairment occurs when there is less recoverable amount than carrying amount due to physical or economic factors. This is not the same term as retirement and disposal u mentioned. Possible scenerios: These 26 old aircrafts will be re-activated in 2022 or later when Covid-19 pandemic will end or Singapore tourism recovery plan work well. Alternatively, they can be offered as sale and leaseback. The impairment will likely be reversed. As for retired A380 airplanes, they can be sold at least residual value, especially with parts on sale for the purpose of removing the accounts from Balance sheet.

SIA reports record H1 loss of S$3.47 billion on huge impairments and retrenchment costs
SINGAPORE Airlines' (SIA) net loss in Q2 doubled that of Q1 as it reported a record net loss of S$3.47 billion for the six months to September.

The Q2 losses came on the back of an impairment charge for older aircraft as well as the S$42 million retrenchment cost.

The national carrier reported a loss of S$1.1 billion for the first quarter to June. With H1 loss coming in at S$3.47 billion, it means that it bled S$2.3 billion - twice the loss in Q1 - in the second quarter.

The H1 net loss was a reversal from a S$206 million profit for April to September last year, before it was blindsided by the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Revenue was 80.4 per cent down at S$1.63 billion for the first half of FY 2021, compared to S$8.3 billion in the preceding year.

The hit from the pandemic has not only resulted in steep decline in revenue, but has also led the group to book an impairment of S$1.33 billion on the carrying values of older generation aircraft, said the carrier in a media statement released on Friday after trading hours.

Besides the impairment on aircraft, SIA has also fully written down the goodwill of S$170 million that was recorded when it took control of Tiger Airways in October 2014.

Furthermore, the retrenchment exercise which cut 2,000 jobs cost the group S$42 million, SIA disclosed for the first time since its announcement on the axe falling.

It has skipped an interim dividend " in view of the significant loss incurred and the need to conserve cash" .

SIA said industry airfreight capacity is anticipated to remain constrained because of lower bellyhold capacity arising from fewer passenger flights. This is expected to keep cargo yields and load factors " high" in the coming months.

It expects to see a progressive recovery in general cargo demand, and continued strong demand from pharmaceuticals and perishables. Cargo demand is also expected to get a boost from the big e-commerce sale days and new product launches, SIA said.

Hence, it will continue to grow the group' s capacity to meet demand and expand the cargo network by deploying passenger aircraft on dedicated cargo operations.

I earn my money. Other people like bb earn their money. No conflict of interest. Then those suckers who like to hold on for paper loss, just hold and dont look at share price lo. At least SIA will send them annual report once a day, they can keep as collector items.

The loss was USD 2.5 billion (roughly SGD 3.5bn) not $2.5bn. The news below was not accurate in the reporting of the rights issue, for SIA raised 8.8 bn (not 11.3 bn reported).  The 11.3 bn raised in this FY so far included loans of 2.0bn (secured on aircraft) and 0.5bn (unsecured) in addition to the 8.8bn raised by the rights issue.
