Deutsche reiterated its unfavourable outlook on the O& M sector, citing that the recent share price gains in Keppel Corp and Sembcorp Marine may be an opportunity to pare down exposure on the counters. Since the start of Oct, Keppel Corp and Sembcorp Marine gained 7.5% and 13.5%, respectively, while WTI rose 2.6% over the same period, largely due to upbeat demand, lower rig count and a weaker dollar. However, the industry continues to face severe headwinds from the cut in capex plans by upstream oil majors into 2016 on the back of the rig oversupply, and is expected to translate into the continue dearth of new orders for the Singapore O& M players. Any new orders contracted are also likely to come with lower profitability, due to the aggressive price competition in light of the cyclical downturn. In addition, Deutsche cited that market watchers may begin to question whether there may be any potential write-downs on Sete Brasil contracts, given that both Keppel Corp and Sembcorp Marine have not been paid by the ailing company for almost a year due to chronic cash-flow shortage. The house has a Hold rating on Keppel Corp (TP: $7.00) and Sell on Sembcorp Marine (TP: $2.00). |

I think joining the two brothers together will greatly strengthed their joint competitive edge in the rig building n other related mkts. Right now, they are even competiting in other areas like power generation, utility, waste management, property, etc. Imagine the massive synergy to be derived n combined knowhow to be exploited by coming together instead of the wasteful competition sapping them dry now.

Sembcorp Marine unit wins EPC contract worth over US$1 bil September 1, 2015 : 7:25 AM Sembcorp Marine ' s subsidiary, SMOE Pte Ltd, has secured an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract worth over US $ 1 billion ($ 1.41 billion) from Maersk Oil North Sea UK Limited. The contract includes the construction of the central processing facility plus two connecting bridges, wellhead platform and utilities & living quarters platform topsides for the Culzean field development. The facility will be installed at a water depth of some 90 metres in the UK sector of the Central North Sea, says the marine and offshore engineering solutions provider. SMOE will provide engineering, procurement, construction and onshore pre-commissioning services while detailed engineering work will be performed by a subcontracting partner. The facility will be located in the Culzean field situated 145 miles East of Aberdeen. The contract is not expected to have any material impact on the net tangible assets and earnings per share of Sembcorp for the year ending Dec 31, 2015. Shares in Sembcorp ended lower at $ 2.39 on Monday, down eight cents or 3.2%. |

Rumor of payment delay of petrobas project are scattered in the market.
As mentioned early, sembmar are badly positioned themselves for this oil downturn. 30 to 40% order exposed to petrobras. Construct new shipyards in Brazil to build drill ship for petrobras, keppel are building it at existing shipyard in Brazil. Cash burnt on the new yard. Building new mega yard in Tuas south and consolidate jurong, Sembawang and ppl shipyard as one in mega yard. Cash burnt on the new mega yard as well. Cost are required for shipyards consolidation. Distribute heavy special dividend in 2011 to 2012 weaken the cash balance. After that, expanding to what mentioned above. So price can't hold well. Will see 1.3 again.

I will suggest to skip sembmar and consider semb ind after this downturn is ceased. Sembmar may sink and never come back again since they are too focused on shipbuilding and repair market which broadly believe that the glory is past and SGD is relative strong, labour issue all lose to China and Korea Shipyards, what worst is Japan Shipyards start to regain their market share after Yen depreciate, the competition in future shipbuilding and repair market are too heat up, don' t even mentioned about shipyards in indonesia and Vietnam. Semb ind is more diversified and is pulled down badly by sembmar recently which is a good stock to collect once the down wave is end. |
