Conversion affects current sia shareholders
Extreme example is liongold which crashed to $0.001 extremely unlikely for SIA since got unlimited supported from T. Probably will experience what SMM shareholders are suffering right now.

Singapore Airlines proposes convertible bond issue with indicative size of S$850m
Singapore Airlines (SIA) is proposing to issue up to $850 million in principal amount of bonds, convertible into new ordinary shares in the company' s capital. The $850 million figure is an indicative size.
The convertible bonds are proposed to be placed with institutional investors and other investors. HSBC has been appointed as the sole bookrunner and lead manager for the issue.
SIA will apply to the Singapore Exchange to list the convertible bonds and new shares. SIA expects to use the proceeds to fund operating cash flow, debt service and capital expenditure.

The arrangement needs to be attractive to attract institution investors. An extreme case will be Liongold where it issued huge convertible loans/bonds to shares. The subscriber convert them to shares and look at the share price of liongold now. Im not saying SIA will be the same, but it will be similar. Redeem and pay for the compound interest. Not redeem, 2030 will be the yr where massive flood of new shares entering into mkt. 1.3b shares of existing MCBs will be injected if not redeem. I estimate another 350m shares will be given for this private placement. So total 1.6bn shares if not redeemed.
The next qn is, does SIA has the cash to redeem? Lets assume SIA returns to pre covid by 2024. By then, interest has snowballed. The 10yr outlook for SIA is bad. But now good for short term trade as any vaccine news and air bubbles will push up price. But the bubble will be popped when reality sets in. A better option will be a bailout by govt to take majority stake in SIA. Govt can extend loan at low interest rates. The banks got the cash and repay the govt subsequently. No public funds are used and we the public dont need to subsidize SIA. The reliefs given from reserves, SIA dont need to repay. Its U and Me who will pay via taxes like higher GST. Don' t think this will affect shares sell down. The last hugh sell down from $9 to $4 is due to rights issue. Bonds only dilute shares when it mature. SIA has the option to redeem its bonds before maturity. Furthermore i expect the current bond will be issued at least $4.25 per bond or above | ||||
